But their new album is in Spanish. Oh wait.. no just the title is in Spanish.
Everyone knows these guys 'rep' THE westside (of Hurstville?).

The band will release their fourth album, entitled Melodia, on July 12.

The first single from The Vines' upcoming album is titled He's A Rocker.
The track is laced with the same energy that hasn't really been seen too much since their thrilling debut. It's thudding opening baseline, the catchy chorus and harmonised moments come together nicely. It's exactly the territory that what we wanted the Sydney band to return to. Comeback?
The single is officially released on June 28.
At the moment, the new album is still untitled, but word around the place is that it will be called Brain Dead. It's scheduled to be released on July 12. There is some info, including the unconfirmed track listing, on this Wikipedia page.

The first line-up was announced on Triple J this morning...
So, the initial rumours seemed to be pretty much on the money. Nothing there to get us too excited though.
The festival will take place over two nights, August 2nd and 3rd, at the usual location - Belongil Fields, Byron Bay.
Tickets go on sale at 9am on Thursday, May 22 and will cost you roughly $4000.

We are playing catch-up here...
Download Gnarls Barkley's latest album, The Odd Couple, for FREE! Um.. yeah, it's only one track and it's in reverse.
Wolf & Cub have signed a publishing deal with Domino.
Frightened Rabbit have a new album called The Midnight Organ Fight and you can stream the whole thing over at the FatCat Records webspace.
20 respectable rock and rap acts that peaked with debut albums. I completely agree with the majority of the hip-hop selections on this list. Nas' Illmatic for example, is around a trillion times better than anything else he has ever done.

As if your wallet was paining enough because of the awesome musical treats heading our way in the first few months of next year.
The first line-up for the Golden Plains Festival was announced today and it looks a little bit like this...
A double headline Sydney side-show featuring Iron and Wine and Beirut would be somewhat awesome.
The festival will take place from March 8 to 10 (Labour Day long weekend) at the lovely Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre in Victoria. A whole load more acts are set to be announced closer to the date.
You can enter the ticket ballot NOW via the official festival site.

Ivy League Records, a staple in the Sydney rock scene, celebrated ten years in business last night with an action-packed show at the Metro Theatre.
In addition to the news a couple weeks back that event was going to be a single show instead of being spread over two nights, we recieved word during the week that both The City Lights and The Monarchs had pulled out of the event. They had however been replaced by Sydney duo The Mess Hall who signed with the label in September. For us, who have overly mentioned how much we like The Mess Hall live this was a nice surprise.
One of Ivy League's more recent signings, Perth's The Silents, kicked things off with an impressive set.

Their sound has definately moved forward since the last time I saw them at Spectrum around a year and a half ago. Their current single 23 is getting steady airplay and their debut album is scheduled to come out sometime before the end of the year.

A while back we reported about a special double night celebration for Ivy League Records' 10th anniversary. The original plan of having the bands split over two big nights has now been scrapped and replaced with a new plan to pack as many awesome local bands into one night as physically possible.
The single show will take place on Friday, November 2 across both stages at the Metro Theatre and will feature performances from:
Tickets are only $33 (+ bf) and are available from the Metro Theatre website.

Occasional rock outfit The Vines have covered the track 4EVA by talentless pop darlings The Veronicas as part of a new compilation album called No Man's Woman.
The album features several male artists, such as Josh Pyke, Expatriate, Paul Kelly, Bob Evans and Powderfinger, covering classic female tracks by Bjork, PJ Harvey, Sinead O'Connor, Portishead and .. the Australian pop twinz.
Suprisingly, The Vines' spaced-out take on the pop-shit-tastic track is fairly entertaining - somewhat reminiscent of a few years back when they made Outkast's Miss Jackson sound like a drugged-out lullaby.
Anyways, judge for yourself...

The line-up for this year's Great Escape festival didn't really appeal to me. The Roots were tempting, but I think if I did want to see them again, it would be as part of their own show - not in the imperfect festival atmosphere.
As it turned out I landed a couple of tickets for the Friday - the opening day of the festival. The main stage action ran Ben Kweller, The Vines, Hilltop Hoods and closed by Wolfmother. Not ideal, or even that tempting, but I was interested in seeing The Vines, having heard nothing but good things about them since their 'comeback' started up.
Considering I have every Vines album and, especially their debut, think they could very well be one of the finer rock outfits this country has produced in the past 10 years, it is kinda embarassing that I can't recall ever seeing them live. I have had my chances, but somehow things seem to come up and get in the way. Even last year, as they played their first public show in some time, a semi-secret gig in the small side room of the Annandale Hotel, I already had tickets to see the Yeah Yeah Yeah's that same night.
This is why, even though I could think of better things to do on a public holiday Friday than to drive out to Homebush, fight the crowds and drunken revelers (yes, I am an old man now) just to see an hour or so of live music, I was still tempted enough about positive reports of The Vines' return to navigate the automobile down ol' Parramatta Road.
