The Laneway Festival is far and away the best festival this country offers. It's unique mix of good bands, a small crowd and strict enforcement of the 98% dickhead-free policy has made it an enjoyable day for the past three years. Although this year did seem a little more crowded than in previous years it was still a fine day with an endless barrage of awesome bands being served up like for folks like myself, who lust after tasty music, more than satisfied.
This year was different from previous years because of this...

No, not my crotch. An artist pass.

2007 is [almost] over and we are just about ready to get stuck into the crazy barrage of January shows that lay ahead of us like a keen and willing lady.
Previously:
But just like a donkey that loves to get beaten - we aren't finished. Drunk for New Years already you say? No. Just a little bit excited to summarize a few more things from the past twelve months.

Those that followed my 'live blogging' of the Splendour In The Grass festival would have noticed that I didn't really have any 'beefs' with the festival as a whole. The event appeared to be a lot more over-crowded than the last time I went in 2004. It also seemed about 40% dustier, more spread out and generally more painful in getting around between stages.

I am not much of a festival kind of guy. The crowds kill me, the all-day drinking guys take away my spirit and I am normally quickly zapped into the realisation that most of the people at the event are not there for the music but more to get drunk and cut loose. Two things made this festival move from uncomfortable to reasonably enjoyable:
Day 1. Editors were the clear highlight. I was reasonably excited to see them and they didn't disappoint. We were seated in the previously mentioned 'lovely side area' and had a nice view of the band. His voice is worthy of making love to.

On Friday night I was finally going to see Gotye perform live (it seems that I bought tickets about 6 months ago). The show was always going to have a tough time comparing to the only other 'semi-orchestra' show I had ever been to - the Eels With Strings Sydney show a year or so back. That was probably one of the best shows I have ever had the pleasure of viewing (with my EYES and EARS). Everett captured the attention of the audience perfectly. Showcasing his charismatic personality between songs and his tortured soul as he played.
(Ok, so was this a summary of how much I like the Eels or the Saturday night Gotye show? Fucks..)
Although their music is dramatically different - Gotye is a similar talent. His music suits the mini-orchestra set-up, with more saxaphones than violins and an upbeat tempo instead of a suicidal flow. All in all the show was highly enjoyable. Wally De Backer's natural talent, humble nature and fantastic array of songs was always going to make that the case. The backdrop animations made the show even more interesting, custom made for each individual track, they were highly successful in acting as the 'visual' accompaniment for the songs.

Nice fella, Joe, has let us know that the tracklisting we posted last week for the Gotye remix album, which we thought was maybe only a 'rough draft', has been confirmed as correct.
The release date has changed, however. It will now be in stores on July 15 and on iTunes on July 8.

Back in May we told you all about how Gotye was planning to release a remix album featuring tracks, not only the insanely awesome Like Drawing Blood release, but also from some his earlier work.
Well, the tracklisting - and who exactly is doing the remixes - for the album, entitled Mixed Blood, has been put out to the masses, via Joe Hardy, who, incidentally, is one of the 'remixers'.
And the tracklisting looks like this..
The album will hit stores on July 10.
It should also be noted that Joe does have a fairly large disclaimer about the possible inaccuracy of this listing on his original post about it - so I guess don't take it as 'fact'.

Two awesome bits of news regarding Gotye...
Firstly.. he is hitting the road for a national tour that will involve a 9-piece mini orchestra. He will be playing the Metro Theatre on July 28th, as well as an all-ages show the following day. Tickets will be on sale at 9am this Friday, May the 19th. The full dates and details for all the shows can be found on this press release.
The second piece of tasty info is that Gotye will be releasing a new remix album sometime later this year. It's entitled Mixed Blood and will feature a load of songs from his awesome Like Drawing Blood album. His work has always been crying out to be remixed, so this has the potential to give a fantastic spin on his great vocals and arrangements.
