Unless you have been living under a rock you have no doubt heard all about the proposal by Dr Pepper that they will give a free can of the soft drink to every American - except former guitarists Slash and Buckethead - if Guns N Roses release 'Chinese Democracy' this year. Well, now Axl Rose has responded. Regular updates of how this pans out over at the viral campaign's official blog. Yeah, we got all suckered in too.
Local label, We Empty Rooms, have just released a Nunchukka Superfly live album which was recorded earlier in the year at The Tote in Melbourne. It will cost you $18 if you order it via their website or around $20 from local stores. Check out Paint It Black on Enmore Road if you are looking for it in Sydney.
Stereogum have a tribute to Bjork's Post which you can download from this Monday. This follows on from their previous tributes of Radiohead and R.E.M.

When the Internet eventually dies and scientists are examining the remains of what the information superhighway once was comments like what's that donkey doing to that midget? and geez people sure did gush a lot over Arcade Fire didn't they? will surely be brought up. It's not that the band don't exist in the 'real world' but they have always been as one of those bands which people all around the interweb seem to be endlessly praising. In a recent study it was discovered that every 6 seconds some blogger somewhere in the world is verbally wacking off over how awesome the Arcade Fire live show is.
And, because I live inside the Internet, the question in my head when I arrived to their show on Tuesday night was - are they really that good live?
They started on the backfoot. Several weeks earlier legendary Austin rockers Spoon had been announced as the support for the second show - but not the first. Rumours circled all around the place about who would be the support for their first show until the week of the show where it was confirmed there would be no supports, Arcade Fire would be on stage at 8pm and everyone would be asleep on the couch watching the tennis by quarter past ten. An SMS from the Enmore Theatre during the afternoon crushed any dreams of a super special surprise guest - confirming that they would be flying solo.
I could rant and rave here about how I forked over $75 for a ticket that had the words 'with special guests' on it and how it's assumed when buying tickets that there will get some 'bonus' entertainment BUT I won't. It's not as bad as the time I went to see The Von Bondies and they had secretly moved their show to the night before - but it definitely did start me off a little bit against them.

The Sydney Festival is now in full swing! Andrew Bird has wrapped up his three show run at The Famous Spiegeltent and added an extra bonus show on January 28 at The Vanguard in Newtown - which has already sold out! Twelve Major Chords has a nice review of the third Sydney Festival show.
Sufjan Stevens kicked off the first of his three Sydney Festival shows last night. According to Oceans Never Listen it was the equivalent of seventeen orgasms.
A while back it was revealed that Spoon would join Arcade Fire for their January 23 show at Enmore Theatre but not for the show on the 22nd. The support slot for that night was left wide and thus barraged with the full force of internet rumour insanity (LCD Soundsystem etc). Well, Sean via the forum has given us the heads up that for the 22nd show there will in fact be no supports and, according to the venue website, Arcade Fire will be on stage at 8pm sharp. Hmmm. It all does seem like a little bit of a rip-off for those that got in early and bought tickets to the first show - especially considering the tickets were around the $75 mark. Hopefully this means that those heading down on the 22nd will be treated to a longer set as a replacement.
The Playground Weekender Festival returns for another year - running from March 7 to 9 at Del Rio on the Hawkesbury River. The first announcement line-up of artists includes Dappled Cities Fly, The E.L.F, Maximo Park, Ian Brown (former Stone Roses frontman), Crazy Penis, Ben Lee, Josh Pyke, The Wombats, Kid Kenobi and a few more dancey-dance types. More acts are going to be added to the line-up soon-ish. Tickets are on sale now via the official site and will set you back around $127.

Word on the internetz is that Spoon has been confirmed as the support act for Arcade Fire's January 23 show. No word as yet on who the support act will be for the show on the 22nd. Here is to hoping it begins with L and ends with CD Soundsystem.
Unless you have been living under a barrage of Xmas to-do lists (or like us don't really give a shit) you would already know that the Peats Ridge Festival that was scheduled to happen over New Years has been canceled. The word on their official site is that it is impossible to host the festival due to excessive amount of rain they have had over the past six months. So it definately didn't have anything to do with the dismal line-up?
We are currently frantically pieced together the final touches of our end of year compilation album and a summary of our favourite things of 2007.
In the meantime...

The initial lineup for the 2008 Big Day Out has been announced, and is as follows...
This would have to be the strongest Big Day Out lineup in years, especially given the increasingly saturated Australian festival market... and there's more to come. Late January should provide for some awesome sideshow action.
In addition to the first announcement, organisers have brought in some ticketing changes. Sydney festival-goers will be limited to 2 tickets each. Furthermore, the sales dates for each city have been staggered to relieve pressure on website ticketing. Also, as was the case last year, 10,000 tickets will be held aside for an online ballot.
The Sydney leg kicks off on Friday, 25 January and is on sale October 10. More information can be found at the Big Day Out website.
