It is extremely hard to sum up into logical sentences just how friggin' amazing this show was. How it immediately deleted last week's wondrous Arcade Fire performance from my memory and just how well James Murphy and his band transformed the already terrific music of LCD Soundsystem into something so much larger and awe inspiring.

Local lads Dappled Cities Fly opened the scheduled evening of entertainment up like a eager beaver would open a clam. They started to an almost empty room. They ended playing to room about 60% full. The time in between was spent playing some songs. Most of these songs were from their last album Granddance except for an older one (Cream) and a new one which sounded fairly awesome.

So, Australia Day is upon us - the national holiday where it is actually against the law NOT to get shitfaced and barbeque some livestock. With the Big Day Out in town and the Sydney Festival still going there is definately no shortage of things going on.
Believe it or not there are still tickets available for LCD Soundsystem's show at Enmore Theatre tomorrow night. We hear you still might be able to snap up front dance floor spots if yo act quick like as well.
If you have over-spent during this crazy month of January and are looking for the cheaper option then the Annandale Hotel might be just what you need. They are having a listening party for the Hottest 100, as well as $10 jugs, $10 all-yo-can-eat wings and ping pong. But that's hardly even the best part as, once the countdown wraps up and hopefully Silverchair haven't taken out the top spot, there is the 'afterparty' featuring an incredibly solid line-up.
It will set you back a measly $10 and is a solid three plus hours of awesomeness:
7.00pm - Tokyo Blonde
7.30pm - The Detours
8.00pm - The Ripping Dylans
8.30pm - Bird Automatic
9.10pm - Talons
10.00pm - Peabody

2007 is [almost] over and we are just about ready to get stuck into the crazy barrage of January shows that lay ahead of us like a keen and willing lady.
Previously:
But just like a donkey that loves to get beaten - we aren't finished. Drunk for New Years already you say? No. Just a little bit excited to summarize a few more things from the past twelve months.

When the time came to put together our annual list of favourite albums of the past twelve months the task seemed a whole lot easier than last year. With the help of our rating system we were able to shortlist the albums from 2007 that we really enjoyed.

Batrider - Tara
Brutal, stripped back, dirty bath water music. You can keep your polished tiresome songs and we will keep worshiping every action of this delightful New Zealand four piece.

There were some really good local music videos made this year.
Architecture In Helsinki - Debbie
We are slightly biased because our loving pal Andy is the star of this video. Those that caught the Helsinki kids at Homebake this year would have also be treated to a great drunken rant from Andy 'Three Fingers' Davis as part of the chaotic halftime entertainment.
----------------------------------
The Mess Hall - Keep Walking
Bizarre and very fitting video for the Sydney duo.

1. Dead Farmers - Violence
Is there any better way to open an album of the best songs from 2007 than with the feedback driven noise of Sydney's Dead Farmers? From the Violence 7" single.
2. Radiohead - 15 Step
Krunk music. The opening track and defining moment of Radiohead's In Rainbows album.

The hot word traveling around the internetz at the moment (big ups to Sean via our forum for the hot tip) is that LCD Soundsystem will be playing two sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne when James Murphy and company are here for the Big Day Out.
Dates!
Saturday, January 26: Enmore Theatre, Sydney
Thursday, January 31: The Forum, Melbourne
No word yet on when tickets will be on sale and [obvs] this means they won't be doing the rumoured sideshow tour with Arcade Fire - who, incidentally, still haven't released the details of their sideshows as yet.
To add some extra sugar to the news apparently Sydney's own Dappled Cities Fly will be supporting - at least for the Enmore Theatre show. Great stuff.

The initial lineup for the 2008 Big Day Out has been announced, and is as follows...
This would have to be the strongest Big Day Out lineup in years, especially given the increasingly saturated Australian festival market... and there's more to come. Late January should provide for some awesome sideshow action.
In addition to the first announcement, organisers have brought in some ticketing changes. Sydney festival-goers will be limited to 2 tickets each. Furthermore, the sales dates for each city have been staggered to relieve pressure on website ticketing. Also, as was the case last year, 10,000 tickets will be held aside for an online ballot.
The Sydney leg kicks off on Friday, 25 January and is on sale October 10. More information can be found at the Big Day Out website.

Fantastic single shot video for the song that I am probably close to over-playing. Brilliantly fitting imagery for this song as well.

An internal memo at our fictional headquearters highlighted the fact our 'audience' questioned our 'seriousness' and the number of the speak markers we use. In response here is an image that relates completely to the way WE as 'journalists' feel about 'this':

Ah bliss on a Wednesday.. Franz Ferdinand have covered the LCD Soundsystem track All My Friends. I, as with most cover versions, was a bit worried about this especially since I really like the original - definately my highlight off the LCD Soundsystem record - but the Scottish lads pull it off brilliantly. Tugging on my heart strings and such.
So I have been slacking on my subscription to 'Awesome Bands Coming From Radelaide' lately, somehow missing the greatness from youngsters, Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire!. As you can see from their photo blog they are currently finishing off their new EP, Boy, Hush Yr Mouth. Grrl, Bare Your Teeth. and everything I have heard sounds awesome. Those that can't wait for the new stuff can download their first EP, You Seize The City, I'll Seize The Sky for FREE. Brilly-ant.
And for the less serious types - He-Man covering 4 Non Blondes.
