Our lurve and/or lust for Batrider is nothing that we have ever hidden in the confines of this web alleyway. We thought their debut album was a brilliant mix of every element that made them exciting the first time we saw them and from a live performance perspective they have rarely ever put a foot wrong. In recent times it is obvious, although their sound has stayed as relentless as ever, their method of attack has somewhat shifted. Their relocation to Europia is the kind of career move that makes or breaks bands but the foursome seem have taken the plunge into the wider, deeper and more dangerous waters with a great sense of determination and with the clear intention of carving out a career doing what we think they are soooo damn good at.
On Friday night, much like the majority of their most recent performances on 'home' soil, saw them once again serve up an endless stream of new content. They seem set on moving forward at a blistering speed and, although from a personal point of view I was more in the mood for a bunch of 'familar' songs, it's hard to knock that kind of approach.
Plagued by a series of technical set backs the band ploughed through their set and, even though their performance didn't orgasm my senses like on previous occasions, it was delivered with the usual perfect balance of emotion and brute force. There was zero fake buildup for the grande finale 'radio song' and very little self congratulatory bullshit. It was just the kind of relentless, determined music that we expected when we walked through the doors and that we continually lust for at every show we attend.
The band is now off to RADelaide to record a new album, working in the same environment in which they recorded the Pink Guitars Yellow Stars acoustic EP. After this they will heading back to Europeland to play even more shows and - more than likely - tear some folks a new one.

A whole six weeks before 'game day' the Sydney leg of the Laneway Festival has officially sold the phuck out.
This announcement comes on the same day that even more acts were added to the festival with Modular hip-young-thangz, Ghostwood, included on the Sydney bill and one of our 'faves', Batrider, added for Melbourne.
Oh, to live in Melbourne.
But not to worry, we have it on good authority that Batrider, who only recently returned home after extensive touring and recording in Europe, will be embarking on a national tour in February. Dates and details on that shortly.

When the time came to put together our annual list of favourite albums of the past twelve months the task seemed a whole lot easier than last year. With the help of our rating system we were able to shortlist the albums from 2007 that we really enjoyed.

Batrider - Tara
Brutal, stripped back, dirty bath water music. You can keep your polished tiresome songs and we will keep worshiping every action of this delightful New Zealand four piece.

1. Dead Farmers - Violence
Is there any better way to open an album of the best songs from 2007 than with the feedback driven noise of Sydney's Dead Farmers? From the Violence 7" single.
2. Radiohead - 15 Step
Krunk music. The opening track and defining moment of Radiohead's In Rainbows album.

The Mint Chicks recently announced that they are relocating to Portland at the end of the year to give the Yanks a chance to experience their 'power' and also possible record some new material. According to their website bassist Mike will not be going with them - instead opting to move to London to be with his girlfriend. The band will be continuing as a trio for the time being with no word as to when they will replace him - or if they will.
It is esimated that Radiohead have made $10 million from their recent In Rainbows experiment on the launch day alone. They have also just signed a record deal with XL to release a CD version of the album early next year.
Trail Of Dead have ditched Interscope ... via their Interscope blog. We have linked to the cached version of the post - where they slag off their former record label - as the original posting has been pulled down.
According to this thread an Australian edition of the incredibly cool Take Away Shows is starting up. The first few episodes are set to feature Darren Hanlon, The Paper Scissors and Holly Throsby.
Local label etcetc, who recently signed a deal with Pnau to release their new album, have just signed a deal with Universal Records for Australia and New Zealand.

It wasn't really surprising considering the crazy amount of stuff on last Friday that this show didn't get a massive turnout. That said, it was a bit disappointing considering the bucketload of very delightful local and INTERNATIONAL bands performing.
We got to the Annandale Hotel super early. So early that we - or the cool half of us at least - were asked several times which band we were part of. So, the reason for the our early attendance? No it wasn't for the lovely overpriced beer in plastic glasses.. it was to see Dead Farmers..

Slow week? No. We are just trapped listening to some awesome album that is all over the interwebs BUT we are not really ready (or probably allowed) to rant about just yet. But yes it is friggin incredible.
Rave Magazine interviews Batrider as they embark on their national tour and plans to dominate the world with their awesome sound. Related: Polaroids interviews Batrider (December, 2006).
?uestlove - drummer and talent-backbone of The Roots - has put up some new tracks on his MySpace. Big deal, right? Well, these tracks are instrumental out-takes from Common's critically panned (but creatively awesome) Electric Circus album. ?uestlove has blogged the background of each of the tracks as well.
The Basics are video-blogging their current tour of Japan, the UK and Norway.
Apparently, the Ryan Adams show last night was spoilt by dickheads and drunken foolz. Anyone else go? Let us know about your thoughts on this and the whole 'drunk dickheads at shows' thing.

Exciting news in our world today.
No, it's not a new Spoon song that will 'Blow' your 'mind' or a reforming of Fugazi that will set 'the' world 'on' fire.
This shit is real, and it is happening right now in front of your eyes. As of today in conjunction with all your favourite local independant bands, and all the ones you've never heard of yet we are starting to sell EPs, Albums, Records, T-Shirts, Trucker Caps and personalised Frisbees that are produced by the very artists that make the Australian music scene churn along at the frenetic pace that it does.
While I may be a little over excited about the lengths we are going to, we do truly believe that the sky is the limit. And while we are starting off small with our initial catalogue (I'll get to that in a minute) we are truly excited about selling all sorts of items on behalf of some of Australia's best musical talent.

Batrider = Awesome. Sam on Bass a particular highlight after the sudden departure of former bassist Toby.
The girls seem to be coming into their own. The confidence levels are way up on stage, and the quality of the music being produced is following.

This is a slightly overdue promotion of something we have been sitting on for about a week now. The original plan was to mention it so many times this week that it would force everyone and anyone to get as excited about it as we are.
Batrider are playing the Hopetoun Hotel tonight (Thursday, the 10th), supported by Yes Nukes, Skull Squadron and Say Cheese and Die. Trust us when we say they are one of the most intense and thrilling live outfits performing in this country at the moment. I have never not walked away absolutely floored after one of their shows.
To add another bonus into the mix, they will be selling copies of their new EP, Pink Guitars Yellow Stars at the show. The EP contains all acoustic numbers, including some new songs as well as remakes of some of their previous released tracks. You can preview some of the songs at their website. Do yourself and BIG favour and get down and see them tonight - we know you won't be disapointed.

Fantastic [homemade, low budget] video for the new song by (maybe) the best band residing in Australia at the moment, Batrider.

Batrider are a New Zelbourne band (made in New Zealand, hosted in Melbourne) that just completed a mini tour along the East Coast of Australia with German trio Chicks On Speed (they don't play guitars). They also recently released an EP titled Take Me Back which contains 4 songs that will suck your brains out. Toby from the band was kind enough to take time out to answer Polaroids of Androids queries, and spill the beans on bandmates Sarah (vocals/guitar), Julia (guitar) and Tara (drums).
Hi Batrider! Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions. The way i see the formation of the band going down involves three girls on a hens night for someone much more sensible, a big burly male stripper with a heart of gold who can play a mean bass guitar, and a whole bunch of alcohol. Am i close?
The girls were three of four quadruplet daughters of an eastern european warlord I killed in battle. They were crying so I thought I'd do the honourable thing and take them home and raise them. I trained each in a musical instrument in the hopes they would one day be able to make some money and get us all away from the mercenary lifestyle. Pauline the bass player died in a fishing accident about four years ago and thats where I stepped in. People have to offer me some pretty serious cash to knock someone off these days.
So in other words you are very close.

Have you ever had one of those nights where you go out fully expecting to only mildly enjoy yourself, and be home by 10pm, only to have your mind exploded by some awesomeness?
Last night, recently Seniored Jonny and I trundled our way to Spectrum for some sort of live music show. What we got instead was an onslaught, the proportions of which were slightly bigger than any regular onslaught before it, but still smaller than that massive tsunami in south east asia a couple of years ago. That shit was massive.
All the signs pointed to shite. From seeing that overly mutton-shopped guy from thirsty merc in the street on the way there, to the amazingly shit , yet still incredibly full of themselves opening act "Warhorse", we could have been forgiven for taking our bat and ball and going home right away. But perserverence pays off in the long run, and we were not dissapointed.
Batrider opened proceedings with a rollicking set of dirty prog-rockers that split the eardrums and shattered the expectations of all in their presence.

If you are in Sydney towne and have nothing much going down this Friday then I thoroughly recommend heading down Oxford St to Spectrum to see New Zealand / Melbourne-based rock outfit, Batrider.
Even if you do have something else on, let it slide, and get your pretty self down there.
If you are unfamilar with their music, you can listen to two new songs, from their new EP here. If you already know their intense style, then your not even reading this, you are too fricking giddy with excitement for Friday to roll itself in.
Oh, and they will be supporting Perth rockers, Snowman, who everyone thinks are insanely good (and they are kinda right..). The Snowmen, who also have a lady in the group I think, are launching their debut self-titled album on the night, so make sure you stick around for that, as well as late-night drink vouchers from random bands (only happens if you are front rowing the event..).
