Week wrap-up

Slow week? No. We are just trapped listening to some awesome album that is all over the interwebs BUT we are not really ready (or probably allowed) to rant about just yet. But yes it is friggin incredible.

Rave Magazine interviews Batrider as they embark on their national tour and plans to dominate the world with their awesome sound. Related: Polaroids interviews Batrider (December, 2006).

?uestlove - drummer and talent-backbone of The Roots - has put up some new tracks on his MySpace. Big deal, right? Well, these tracks are instrumental out-takes from Common's critically panned (but creatively awesome) Electric Circus album. ?uestlove has blogged the background of each of the tracks as well.

The Basics are video-blogging their current tour of Japan, the UK and Norway.

Apparently, the Ryan Adams show last night was spoilt by dickheads and drunken foolz. Anyone else go? Let us know about your thoughts on this and the whole 'drunk dickheads at shows' thing.

The Roots start work on their 10th album

Legendary hip-hop group, The Roots, are set to follow up their fantastic 2006 release, Game Theory, with a new album, tentatively titled Rising Down.

?uestlove has revealed in an interview with All Hip-Hop that they will be moving towards a more synthesizer sound on the new album. A far cry from the organic sound they started with on their earlier releases.

No tracks have yet been leaked, but with their continual insistence to please critics over gaining chart success - even with a major record label deal - we wouldn't mind betting it is going to be another fine release from the Philadephia outfit.

Bluesfest @ Byron Bay - 07/04/2007

Over the weekend I travelled to 'The spiritual capital of Australia' (read: a formely charming town, now ruined by too many tourists and the amenities that come along with them) for a couple of days of the 18th annual Blues & Roots Festival. I've always found myself to be too middle class and white to really connect with this sort of music, but my lady friend likes it and it was a good excuse for a holiday so along I went.

The only band I was really keen to see were The Roots, and they were far from disapointing. Anyone that attempts to deny that watching 15,000 white people singing along to a cover version of Shimmy Shimmy Ya while making the Wu-Tang symbol with their hands needs counseling in the ways of Hip-Hop. Unfortunately I was standing too far back to get many decent photos, so below is all you'll get out of me.

The Roots

Other acts witnessed included Eugene 'Hideaway' Bridges, Ozomatli, Missy Higgins and Ben Harper, all of whom were enjoyable enough while not really being my thing.
