Faker and Sparkadia team up for national tour, torch passing etc

Remember when Memphis Bleek kicked that awesome freestyle at the start of a Jay-Z album and it was like the passing of the torch, from the legend to the new kid on the block?

No? Ok.

Anyway, this upcoming tour, which sees over-loved Triple J rockers, Faker, team up with up-n-comers, Sparkadia, is kinda like the Australian indie pop-rock equivalent of this. "Memphis who?" I hear you say. Yeah, exactly.

Thursday, September 4: Prince Of Wales, Bunbury
Friday, September 5: Metro City, Perth
Saturday, September 6: Settlers Tavern, Margaret River
Friday, September 12: Forum Theatre, Melbourne
Saturday, September 13: Wrestpoint Showroom, Hobart
Sunday, September 14: HQ, Adelaide
Friday, September 19: Coolangatta Hotel, Gold Coast
Saturday, September 20: Enmore Theatre, Sydney

Sparkadia plan very small album tour

It seems as though album tours are getting smaller and smaller. Soon they will consist of the band walking into their kitchen to play a show and then the following evening hanging out in their bathroom to do the final show of the tour.

Sparkadia are set to release their debut record, Postcards, in a matter on minutes (ie. May 31) and then 'hit the road' to celebrate.

Saturday, June 14: Jive Bar, Adelaide
Wednesday, June 18: The Troubadour, Brisbane
Friday, June 20: Northcote Social Club, Melbourne
Saturday, June 21: Annandale Hotel, Sydney

All shows supported by Dirty Secrets. Other supports are Femme Fatale (Adelaide), Oh Mercy (Melbourne) and Adrian Deutsch (Sydney).

Tickets on sale May 22 (tomorrow!)

The notable omission of a Sydney sideshow in The Thrills' recent tour announcement has now been rectified.

Friday, June 6: The Hi Fi, Melbourne
Saturday, June 7: Come Together Festival, Sydney
Sunday, June 8: Metro Theatre, Sydney
Tuesday, June 10: Amplifer, Perth
Wednesday, June 11: Fly By Night, Fremantle
Friday, June 13: Settlers Tavern, Margaret River

Tickets are available NOW for all of the shows except the Sydney one which goes on sale this Thursday, May 8.

Also, big congrats to local kids, Sparkadia, who have landed the main support slot for all of the shows on the tour.

Video: Sparkadia - Too Much To Do

I loved the early demo of this from a few years back and was disapointed that it didn't make it onto their EP. Great to see it as the lead-off single for their debut album, Postcards, which is due out via Ivy League on May 31.

Come Together 2008 line-up announced

Last year the Come Together Festival went all a little bit emo and fell off our radar. This year it appears to have returned to it's roots and features a tonne of local 'indie' bands that have been pre-approved by Triple J.

No real surprises in the line-up, but the possibility of Thrills sideshows is moderately exciting.

Saturday
Faker, VHS or Beta, The Thrills, British India, Dappled Cities Fly, Cut Off Your Hands, Young & Restless, Sparkadia, Little Red, The Dirty Secrets, The Seabellies, I Heart Hiroshima, The Holidays, The Galvatrons, The John Steel Singers, Former Child Stars, Lions At Your Door, The Jezabel, The Vignettes.

Sunday
The Living End, Gyroscope, Birds Of Tokyo, The Hot Lies, Mammal, Dead Letter Circus, The Getaway Plan, Children Collide, Trial Kennedy, Many Machines On 9, Calling All Cars, Skybombers, In Fiction, Stealing O'Neal, Number Station, Acid Eyeliner, Short Stack, Irksome Bliss, Paper Champion.

The festival will once again take place within the confines of Sydney's Luna Park, this year on the 7th and 8th of June. The festival is also ALL AGES so watch out if you are one of those folks that doesn't really like 16-year-olds who think they are the kings of Cool Town.

Sparkadia pull out of Dappled Cities Fly tour

The Dappled tour is now a little bit lighter with this bit of sad news from up-and-comers Sparkadia floating into our inbox today...

Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to pull out of the February east coast tour with Dappled Cities.

We really really apologise to all who wanted to attend, and hope you can forgive us. We will definitely be back in March for shows all over Australia.

AB, Dave, Rabone & Tiffany.

We have subsequently downgraded the tour from 'very tasty' to just 'tasty'.

Free download of Sparkadia's new single via iTunes

Sparkadia, who have just recently signed to Ivy League Records, are giving away their latest single, Animals, for FREE via iTunes until next Monday (December 17).

Follow this link to download the song.

The track picks up right where Morning Light left off. It's an up tempo, rumbling giant, traveling along at a lovely catchy pace. No word yet as to when their debut album is going to be released, but we are beginning to get a little bit excited.

Faker, Sparkadia, Cloud Control and Where's Jerome added to Purple Sneakers NYE Party

A while back we reported that the Purple Sneakers kids had organised a fairly nice New Years bash at Sydney Uni - which was doubling as the unofficial Dappled Cities Fly welcome home party also. Well, today the line-up was completed with local acts Faker (co-headlining the night with the Dappled fellas), Sparkadia (recently signing with Ivy League Records), Cloud Control and Brag comp winners Where's Jerome all joining the bill.

These new acts will be joinning the current line-up which includes Young and Restless, The Tongue, The Holidays, Wons Phreely and S.Y.L.K.

Tickets are on sale now and although we orignally thought the $30ish price tag was a little steep we are now feeling that the wall-to-wall action doesn't get much better than this. Tickets available Moshtix, Ticketek and Sydney Uni Access Office.
