Eddy Current Suppression Ring have capped off an impressive year by topping two out of the three lists in Mess and Noises' annual readers poll. The Melbourne outfit finished two votes ahead of The Drones to win Album Of The Year, in addition to taking out the Best Live Act honour ahead of an impressive field which included veteran rockers You Am I and Nick Cave. Melbourne female quintet Beaches convincingly took out the prize for Best New Act, beating out psychedelic Modular-ites Tame Impala and one of our faves Ghoul. #
Obama didn't pick Lil Wayne as his running mate, the total lack of new albums by Courtney Love and Ini Kamoze didn't beat down Girl Talk for not clearing his sample of Here Comes The Hotstepper.
Word on the striz-eet is that Eddy Current Suppression Ring will be playing a special 'secret' show this Friday at the Excelsior Hotel in Surry Hills with Peewee and the Bed Wettin' Bad Boys. More details as they come to hand. #

Eddy Current Suppression Ring are playing a show at the Excelsior Hotel tonight with Legends Of Motorsport and The Disbelievers. The 100 pre-sale tickets were snapped up in a flash and, if it's anything like last time they were in town, the remaining 150 door tickets will more than likely disappear pretty quickly also. #
The music of Melbourne's Eddy Current Suppression Ring conjures up images of sweaty pubs, inner city shortcuts, smashed pots of beer and wasting away a Tuesday afternoon on cheap jugs. Sadly, these are fading visual references to Australian rock in 2008 where work for the dole schemes, rising interest rates and MySpace seem to have all but suffocated the life out of the blue collar side of local music.
