Julian Casablancas @ Metro Theatre
09/05/2010

There are no photos here. That's (kinda) explained in more detail here, but it'll make sense as you read on. Which I guess, if you're one of those people with a limited attention span and only interested in crappy iPhone photos, you won't get to.

Die! Die! Die! @ Annandale Hotel - 15/04/2010 + Kelly Clarkson @ Acer Arena - 17/04/2010

I've always been envious of people with narrow musical tastes. No, really. It means they can focus all their attention on a handful of artists, zeroing in on their work to the point of obsession. I'm personally spread far too thin, with my interests covering basically all the high points that exist between Marf Loth and Peter Andre.

Monotonix @ Annandale Hotel
03/03/2010

I don't think it's an exaggerated claim to say that this was one of the best shows performed anywhere ever. Maybe Monotonix always bring the fuckus like this, maybe they're the best live band to ever grace this lil' weak country (sorry D!D!D!) or maybe the planets aligned, someone slipped a bit of chopped up magic mushroom into my quiche and I was dreaming the entire evening.

Daniel Johnston @ Metro Theatre
04/02/2010

I'll admit that when I originally organised to go and see Daniel Johnston a fews weeks ago I didn't know too much about the 'special' big guy besides the fact he invented Kurt Cobain using the same live-birthing technique the KLF used to create Pete Doherty.

The Decemberists @ The Virgin Mobile Metro Theatre
19/01/2010

I rocked up to The Decemberists' Virgin Mobile (shudder) Metro gig, just in time to catch the end of Bridezilla's support slot. They seemed to have the audience in rapture with tracks from their tops new record, The First Dance. I caught a sweet sounding Heart You Hold, before they awkwardly maneuvered from the stage.

Animal Collective @ Enmore Theatre
11/12/2009

Last week I predicted that this concert was going to be the defining moment in the relationship between myself and Animal Collective. I saw it as the perfect opportunity to decide once and for all whether or not I liked this band, loved this band or thought they were nothing more than another over-hyped blog band, destined for the Internet wasteland where Tapes N Your Hands Say Yeah hang out, play ping pong and talk about the good ol' days.

Homebake @ The Domain
05/12/2009

The Festival Ladies, minus Mrs Pop who is currently lost to the Seattle grunge movement, attended Homebake on the weekend. The much loved Aussie / NZ festival once again did not disappoint. Futurama tattoos, vodka infused slurpees, the revival of the epic 90s band Tumbleweed, interpretive dancing, vodka smuggled in via Ribena squeezies and yet another moshpit injury... it had it all.

Witch Hats + Ghosts Of Television @ Goodgod Smallclub
20/11/2009

So I guess I went into this way more tired than I was expecting, having spent the morning doing my final university exam for the year. Which is a shame as I was really looking forward to this gig.

Border Thieves @ Spectrum
28/08/2009

At some point during their allocated 40 minute set, sandwiched between a power-pop bunch of Short Stacks and an acoustic emo band, Border Thieves hit the world-famous 'sweet spot' and reminded me exactly why I started thinking they were a special band in the first place. Not special in the sense that they get to park close to the shops or that they get to compete in their own slower version of the Olympics, but more that they are three exceptional musicians.
