The Temper Trap + Young and Restless + Fait Accompli @ Spectrum
18/11/2006
Some of the brightest stars that represent the future of Australian music were on show at Spectrum on Saturday, as The Temper Trap, Young and Restless and Fait Accompli put together one of the best complete sets i've seen in a while.

The Temper Trap headlined. Having not known much about them before the show, i was obviously pleasantly surprised and impressed by their tightness and their intelligent, catchy song writing.

Plenty of stage presence and confidence helped too, but the thing that stood out most was the incredible voice possessed by their lead singer and guitarist Doug. A piercing vibrato with the South East Asian heritage clearly visible, made for a fairly riveting experience.

Young and Resltess supported, and were their usual hyper-energetic, screamy self-destructive selves.

Lead singer Karina's ability to own the stage despite fierce competition from all her other band mates is something that sets her apart as a front person.

Fresh from their win in Triple J's Unearthed competition, the band were in fine form. The absolute conviction evident in all the members likely being the main reason they got across the line in first place.

Finally, Fait Accompli, and up and coming Sydney band showed that their were worthy of what one would imagine to be a fairly highly coveted third support slot.

Picture a prog-rock version of a Bloc Party styled Radiohead cover band doing originals, and your not much closer to knowing what they sound like. But they were terrific all the same. Ray on the drums/vocals was undoubtedly the star of the show, and had the audience transfixed at his impressive multi-tasking.

All in all, the night could be considered a raging success. Not even the frat boys in the front row could ruin that.
