Chances are you have been hearing A LOT about new Modular signing and/or 'hot young Perth thang' Tame Impala over the past few weeks/decades. Through a unique partnership with the Axis Of Evil (Google, Microsoft, Triple J) the group have managed to infect 82% of Da Internet. This kind of mass marketing and umbrella crossover hasn't been witnessed since some HOT, awesome band called MGMT changed the path of music forever waaay back in early 2008.
But unlike MGMT these guys are pretty damn awesome. They splatter the proven psychedelic rock formula into their own mix of fine Western Australia weed, a multitude of harmonic layers and a wonderful youthful ignorance. At times they drive their stoner combi van a little too close to Wolfcover Town BUT overall I find their core sound very interesting.
The trio's self-titled debut EP was officially released this weekend. If you did as you were told and previously downloaded the Skeleton Tiger track then you can purchase the rest of the EP (another four songs) from HERE for the crazy cheap-ass, bargain basement price of just $3.99. And some FREE steak knives? No. But maybe you'll get a pair of fluro cut-offs. Burn!
The band have also announced that they will be heading out around Australia during November to pimp their EP, make some girls fall in love with them and maybe even make you re-think your silly anti-Modular stance.
Wednesday, November 19: Beach Road Hotel, Bondi (FREE!)
Thursday, November 20: The Civic Hotel, Sydney
Friday, November 21: The Tote, Collingwood
Sunday, November 23: Elsewhere, Gold Coast
Thursday, November 27: Rocket Bar, Adelaide
Saturday, November 29: The Nofolk Basement, Fremantle
Tickets go on sale on next Thursday, October 16. If you pre-order tickets they will set you back $15 AND you will get a FREE copy of the EP. This (obvs) excludes the FREE show at Bondi Road Hotel cause it's FREE n' shit and that would be a loophole and/or a glitch in the matrix that could kill us all. Or at least Bondi people. I think Andrew G lives in Bondi. Think about The G.
