Franz Ferdinand announce sideshows, reveal details of new album

Franz Ferdinand
Scottish art shot.

Remember Franz Ferdinand? Yeh, me neither. But apparently (according to our research department and a large influx of informative press releases) they were MASSIVE sometime around the re-birth of rock and/or roll in the summer of 2002. They also apparently started World War 1.

And now (much like hoola hoops, European techno and the 1980's) they are BACK - bigger, better and more Scottish than EVER before!

Firstly, according to the most reliable music source on the internet (circa 2009), they will release their long awaited third album on January 26th (UK) or 27th (US), which, assuming the stick to the tough 'Saturdays only' release rule of Oz-tralia, means local fans should be able to get their hands on a copy on the 24th. Ahead of the curve?

The new record is entitled Tonight: Franz Ferdinand and the production work will be handled by a fella named Dan Carey who has previously worked with the likes of Hot Chip, Sia, Kylie (our Kylie!), The Brazilian Girls, CSS and Lily Allen.

The first little taste from Tonight is Lucid Dreams, which the band have been 'showing off' on their webspace for a little while now.

Lucid Dreams

Tracklisting:

  1. Ulysses
  2. Turn It On
  3. Kiss Me
  4. Twilight Omens
  5. Send Him Away
  6. Live Alone
  7. Bite Hard
  8. What She Came For
  9. Can't Stop Feeling
  10. Lucid Dreams
  11. Dream Again
  12. Katherine Kiss Me

It has also been announced today that - along with their appearance as part of the Falls Festival - the Scots will play a pair of sideshows, giving Aussie fans a chance to preview the group's new material before they go out and blow their hard earned cash and/or bandwidth on the record.

Monday, January 5: Palace Theatre, Melbourne
Tuesday, January 6: Enmore Theatre, Sydney

They will be supported at the shows by UK's The Cribs and Sydney's Red Riders, both of which were also massive (apparently) when da Franz boyz ruled the airwaves a decade or so ago. It's like a revival tour.

Tickets go on sale on Wednesday, October 29 via Ticketek.

I thought the last Cribs album was massively under-rated... but yeh I'm kind of indifferent re: Franz.

I couldn't get into the last Cribs album. Alex Franz Ferdinand produced it, but that didn't mean I'd like it any more or less.

Give a listen to what (might be) new stuff from Franz Ferdinand. I am kinda 'digging' the bluesy-funk road they seem to be heading down. #
