Simultaneously launching their EP, farewelling a guitarist, welcoming a new one and covering karaoke favourite at the Hopetoun last night, Sydney's Pang were in fine form. Their sublime pop hooks perfectly filling a hole in the Sydney scene for acts of their calibre. While the EP is still in production, last nights show was a pretty clear indicator that it will be fairly impressive and well worth the paltry fee they will surely be charging for it.
Walrus were a good contrast as support, as their bluesy heavier sound nicely offset the more melodic nature of Pang. The boys are getting tighter each time i see them, and it was also good to see some newer material being pulled out that is not available on either of their current releases. A sign of good things to come if we should be so lucky.
And finally, while we missed them, all reports indicate that The Small Hours put on a delightful show to kick off the night. They are all around 12 years old, so they should develop their sound over the next few years to become a force to be reckoned with in the very near future.
