New Music Tuesday

Some recent developments from the Stones Throw Records camp sees the release of Jaylib's Champion Sound double CD. Jaylib was a shortlived but prolific collaboration between rapper Madlib and recently passed producer extraordinaire J "Jay Dee" Dilla. The track The Mission (Stringed Out Remix) is available online, as well as plenty more info over on the Stones Throw site.

While their last album was released way back in 2005, the expansive and prolific nature of the Broken Social Scene collective means that a new release is never too far away. Kevin Drew's album, Spirit If..., will be the first in the Broken Social Scene presents series, and the first taste of it Tbtf sounds pretty promising. The combination of the press release saying it is about Drew's favourite topics of "fucking, fighting, fear and hope", as well as track titles like "Fucked Up Kid", "Gang Bang Suicide" and "Tbtf" (which stands for "Too Beautiful To Fuck") makes it an even more enticing prospect.

On the local scene, we have finally found our way into the world of Lucy & The Pheromones and we just have to slap ourselves for being so slow to act on them. Their EP Departures has been out since last year, and the track Shotgun The Cadillac is taken from it. Well worth a listen, and if you like what you hear be sure to make your way on down to the Pitz warehouse in Marrickville on Sunday from 2pm, as they will be playing along side fellow Sydney bands Warhorse and Fait Accompli, as well as Melbourne's Bachelor of Arts. Not a bad way to end a weekend huh? See you there.
