Gig Review: Architecture In Helsinki @ Manning Bar, Sydney Uni - 27/07/2007

On Friday night I headed over to Sydney Uni to see Architecture In Helsinki for the second time this year.

I didn't have the best view of the show..

Architecture In Helsinki at Manning Bar

Manning Bar is a strange place. It's set up to put on shows, but unless you're in the main sunken front area then your always going to be struggling to be 'part of the show'.

Arriving with (what I thought was) plenty of time up my sleeve I was shoked to find out that I had actually missed a couple of songs. It was 9.40 and not a school night - what's the deal with the PG starting time? I was even thinking I might catch some of the support act, Portland's Yacht, who I heard was a little bit wild.

Ok.. while I 'gripe'... Sydney Uni - what's the deal with the only bar being on the outside of the venue on an overcrowded balcony? It's Friday and I want to get crunked up. Even if it is some rule to make the show an all ages thing I don't really see why anyone who wants to have a beer and watch a band has to do it from 400 metres back.

The Helsinki kids did more than enough to please me. I don't think I enjoyed the show as much as the Metro one back in May but it was still a whole lot of honest fun. They mixed it up and played a nice combination of the older favourites as well as stuff from the new album. The crowd lapped up everything they were given. There were hands in the air, screaming boys and girls and party dance moves. As said - honest fun all 'round.

The new album, Places Like This is in stores as of yesterday - Saturday the 28th - from all places where they sell 'music'.
