Talons + Laura Imbruglia + Emergency Emergency @ Hopetoun Hotel - 09/09/07

Talons

This is our first headline show.

It's hard to believe, but it's true. Talons performed their first headline show EVER on Sunday night and confirmed our sneaking suspicion that they are indeed 'fucking rad'.

Emergency Emergency kicked things off with their laptop-electro-chaos. I think they have exclamation marks in their name BUT I don't think they warrant them.

I claimed after their first song that they were my new favourite band. After their second song I was not so sure and after the fourth or fifth I was a bit sick of the doof doof. When they did the whole crazy screaming over unorganised electronic shit-storms I loved them. When it was all monotone beats I wished for them to be muted.

Laura Imbruglia was next up with her collection of stripped back urban-folk songs. She is entertaining BUT I really have no opinion on her music. It kinda just sits in my stomach. By now, if you have ever been out in public, you have seen her play so you probably already have decided if like her or not.

Sometimes I wonder if I talk up bands too much in my head only to have my love crushed when, after talking about their awesomeness for about two months, I finally see them live again and they suck. Talons are not one of these cases. They were as flawlessly fantastic on Sunday as they were the first time I saw them back in February.

They still have another three shows as part of their residency with some very good bands in support too. The last week is especially dreamy.

Brief fan-buoy gushing after the show with front-man Christian confirmed our dreams as well - they will be playing our little party in October! But loads and loads more details on that later.

We probably don't need to say that if you don't go and see them during September (for FREE as well if you needed any deal sweetening) then we HATE you. Yes that's harsh. But once you go and see them you will realise why we have to be so tough.
