In case you are completely behind the times like us, you probably already know that Radiohead will be releasing their new album In Rainbows in only 9 days.
The band will be offering the album in 3 formats: a digital download version that allows you to set your own price starting 10th October; a Discbox with vinyl, CD and download versions plus extra artwork shipping early December, and only available from their website; and a regular CD version starting early next year.
At this point it seems that the band are doing it all without a record label and handling it all themselves. What's more, they are completely bypassing the agonisingly annoying pre-album hype phase and the inevitable leak that comes along with it, allowing them to have full control over how the release of the album plays out, without having to resort to the nasty, ugly DRM and other restrictive tricks the record companies have been trying to force on their consumers for the past few years.
Kudos to the band for doing something different and forging their own path. Lets hope the album is as nice as the band are being to their loyal fans
