Random Little Things: Andrew Bird, Sufjan Stevens, Arcade Fire, Playground Weekender

The Sydney Festival is now in full swing! Andrew Bird has wrapped up his three show run at The Famous Spiegeltent and added an extra bonus show on January 28 at The Vanguard in Newtown - which has already sold out! Twelve Major Chords has a nice review of the third Sydney Festival show.

Sufjan Stevens kicked off the first of his three Sydney Festival shows last night. According to Oceans Never Listen it was the equivalent of seventeen orgasms.

A while back it was revealed that Spoon would join Arcade Fire for their January 23 show at Enmore Theatre but not for the show on the 22nd. The support slot for that night was left wide and thus barraged with the full force of internet rumour insanity (LCD Soundsystem etc). Well, Sean via the forum has given us the heads up that for the 22nd show there will in fact be no supports and, according to the venue website, Arcade Fire will be on stage at 8pm sharp. Hmmm. It all does seem like a little bit of a rip-off for those that got in early and bought tickets to the first show - especially considering the tickets were around the $75 mark. Hopefully this means that those heading down on the 22nd will be treated to a longer set as a replacement.

The Playground Weekender Festival returns for another year - running from March 7 to 9 at Del Rio on the Hawkesbury River. The first announcement line-up of artists includes Dappled Cities Fly, The E.L.F, Maximo Park, Ian Brown (former Stone Roses frontman), Crazy Penis, Ben Lee, Josh Pyke, The Wombats, Kid Kenobi and a few more dancey-dance types. More acts are going to be added to the line-up soon-ish. Tickets are on sale now via the official site and will set you back around $127.
