Pivot sign to Warp Records

Sydney's Pivot have joined the likes of Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Boards Of Canada, Nightmares On Wax, Maximo Park, !!!, Battles, and Jamie Lidell as the newest addition to the roster of legendary electronic-based label Warp Records.

The band, spearheaded by the two Pike brothers - Laurence and Richard, have recently added Perth electronic whizz kid Dave Miller to their ranks and, if the performance when they opened for Battles a few months back is anything to go by, they are really starting to nail their distinct chaotic sound.

The first single from their upcoming Warp debut is titled In The Blood and will be released in May. The album will follow sometime later in the year.

The trio will be heading over to Europe shortly but not before playing a couple of shows on home turf:

Thursday, March 20: Oxford Arts Factory, Sydney
Friday, March 28: East Brunswick Club, Melbourne

Wow, looking forward to hearing the album even more now if they've managed to get Warp's attention... that's a pretty prestigious label to get landed on.

i am worried this is going to be a super late night like the Oxford Art Factory seems to do sometimes... sucks... i am too old to be dancing and/or doing lines of coke off a hookers crack at 4am..

I entirely wish I could (had it in my calendar and everything), but I just don't think it's going to happen unfortunately... really need to stay in and work on finishing this tune...

Let me know what you think though. I found their show from June last year a little underwhelming, but I think it will be better now that they've got a third member fully in place - it was just a bit weird seeing them play as a two-piece (with an iPod backing them up no less)

i am not sure i am in the mood for electronic instrumental stuff so am still 50/50 on whether or not i go.. at the Battles show a few months back they were pretty awesome.. the only other time i had seem them live before that was with the full band and that was pretty good.. their new stuff packs a harder punch than the atmospheric earlier work..

I think we're going tonight, though truth be told, I'd much rather an early night in and some quality Wii time.

Jonny Yes Yes

ha.. yeh i am going to that place in petersham instead where they sell schnitzels the size of cows.. i might then walk to the city just to burn some of it off..

Posted at 17:15 on Thursday, March 20, 2008.

angus12mc

These schnitzels are obviously not made from chickens, but from their cousins, the velociraptor!

Might go check it out for a bit, but this head cold is suggesting otherwise.

Old men. We are.

flukazoid

damn, all this talk of schnitzel is making me mighty hungry maybe I should go eat one at the kingsford rege not as big as a cow, but decent enough...

Sean

well i'm not there because i am old. had a few drinks after work, trained it home, sat down on couch...no desire to leave the house.

(I got swamped in waveforms and loops, and consequently didn't go either. sadly.)

This is a tragic picture guys. I think we're going to have to rename this discussion forum to "The Front Porch" Avatars will be limited to a selection of pictures of rocking chairs.

I ended up staying home and faced down this flu I'm getting. I combatted that shit with chicken soup.

We were on the door, so we had a friend go as 'Maria' and she said that after Jack Ladder, it was two hours until Pivot came out. They were too busy high-fiving everyone around the venue to start on time. Smelling their own farts, etc.

Also, our friend, who had a camera, was approached by at least a thousand ditzy girls asking to have their photo taken, despite the fact she isn't a social photographer.

WOMEN.

how about a mahogany rocking chair for you, Truskett?

Posted at 12:38 on Friday, March 21, 2008.

angus12mc

I'm more of a pine man, myself.

Though I've been leaning towards mahogany lately....

this is a lose lose situation for us and a win win for PR.

We must never accept freebies! A combination of us paying full price for tickets and not reviewing shows will turn PR on their heads.

mike(punch)

and empty our bank accounts. fuck that. im well and truly to sell right the fuck out as soon as a decent offer comes along.
