Sydney duo, The Mess Hall, who hit harder than most and play more shows than all you other bands put together, have taken out the 2007 Australian Music Prize for their second album, Devil's Elbow.
We think the band, who have largely gone unrecognised in regards to awards and record sales for their work to date (besides the award for the Coolest Looking Drummer In The World 2005), are deserved winners. With the $25,000 cash prize to help them they should be able to bust their way into the international market.
That said, we are still a little sad that Devastations didn't win. The award recognises the album the artist released that year and, although Devil's Elbow was probably a lot more commercially success than Yes U, it wasn't in the same league in regards to the actual artistic product created. Eh. Rant over.
The presentation today comes after the announcement earlier in the week that Bluejuice and New Buffalo had won the two preliminary prizes for the Australian Music Prize - the people's choice and Red Bull 'leg up' awards.
