Good news from the Montreal band is that the follow up to their brilliant 2005 (2005!!!) album Apologies To The Queen Mary now has a track list, and an official release date of June 17th. You can read the official release at their page on the subpop site.
And a little Pitchfork bashing if I may. Turns out that their previous announcement of the album's title as Kissing The Beehive, and subsequent tacky mocking of said title may turn out to be simply speculation, as the album is still to have an official title attached to it. A little less too-cool-for-school taste-making tripe, and a little more fact checking next time me-thinks.

I think they wanted to go with Kissing the Beehive but they didn't realise it was a book of the same name.
Mount Zoomer is the name of the studio run by Arlen Thompson where most of the album was recorded.
From all accounts this album owns 2008.
Still yet to leak, but I hope for my sanity it leaks soon.

fuck i cant wait for this either.
it is a pretty amazing coincidence that 2 completely seperate entities have or were going to name something kissing the beehive. someone should expand it into a scene from Magnolia 2: De Ja Vu Season.

It's leaked.
My god, it is so good. Makes everything else sound inconsequential.
Fovourite songs so far-Soldier's Grin, Language City
Album of the year, no doubt.

Soldier's Grin IS spectacular.
Language City is just a monster.
California Dreamer is perfect.
Kissing the Beehive is pure epic.
I love this band. And this album.
Forgive the gushing.

So far listened to California Dreamer.
Love love love.
I'll be back, still listening.

there's some great stuff for sure. but there are some weak spots too. not nearly the record apologies was.
of course, this is very VERY early....it took a while for the last one to really hit me.

Yeah it's a poor opinion because I haven't heard it yet and I was stuck at work reading about how much everyone else is loving it. I was just being a tool.
But to be honest, I don't have to listen to it to know that I will love it. It's Wold Parade for god's sake.

hmm.. there is still the chance that the leak is partly fake..
or they will change it now that it has been leaked..

Sean, I am not hearing any weak spots honestly.
I can't say if it is better then Apologies, but it is
certainly a more ambitious album.
I love it, in full.
But that was probably a given for me.

first thoughts...
on the spectrum between sunset rubdown and handsome furs i think its slighty further to the Krug side than apologies, whereas apologies in hindsight was right in the middle.
this isnt a bad thing, but at the same time i think that balance is why i like apologies so much. but we'll see.

Oh Wayne, don't be blinded by your passion! :P
Soldier's Grin, Language City, California Dreamers are all friggin amazing. Love them. In fact, most of Dan's stuff on this one is brilliant. California Dreamers does remind me a LOT of The Perfect Crime on the last Decemberists record though.
But Bang Your Drum and An Animal In Your Care are not great. Again, I'm not a Krug disciple so maybe that's more me (but California Dreamers!!).
Kissing the Beehive is pretty damn awesome...though the extended outro is a tad unnecessary. Like everyone else, I love the duet aspect of this one.
Overall, it's nowhere near Apologies. The best songs on Apologies are better than the ones here, and the worst songs on this one are worse than the lowest points on Apologies.
All that said, I am enjoying the record quite a lot. It just had a lot to live up to for me (Apologies was my favourite record of 2005) and it doesn't quite meet them.

and this leak is from the private stream on SubPop so i've heard that the production is actually much better than it sounds on this leak (according to people with actual CDs).

Sean, I am going to try and not compare this album directly to Apologies.
They feel like two separate creatures and I think I will just love both equally.
I agree with your comments about Solder's Grin, Language City and California Dreamer.
All amazing songs.
I actually love An Animal in Your Care.
Probably The Grey Estates is the only weak song for me.
Also, I don't think there is any song as earth shattering as I'll Believe In Anything,
but Kissing the Beehive comes damn close.
So, Apologies is great and I think AMZ is great too. Just in different ways.

I actually quite like The Grey Estates. Bang Your Drum grew on me a bit today...but An Animal In Your Care is still a big empty void for me. It's weird, I LOVE Krug's touches to Dan's songs but on his own I seem to have lost interest since Apologies. I think I love every Krug song on Apologies more than any of his songs on this one. I think he's hit his "genius" limit and needs to focus himself a bit more.
I know it sounds like I'm ragging on this record when in fact I'm really digging it. It's going to be high on my year end list for sure.

Sean
also...i'm reallly nerding out at the moment and talking about this record on three different forums simultaneously.
[/tool]
wayne, what's the WP community thinking of this? obviously there's going to be near acclaim, but are there many people feeling a bit "meh"?
May 2, 2008 at 22:01
I'm not sure if I'd come across as a total wanker if I said he meant Wolf Parade.
So yes.

Sean, I think that Dan has definitely excelled himself here and his songs are always more immediate.
But Spencer's songs grow better with time, I feel. And I think California Dreamer is as good
as anything he has written. I also think if you get to read the lyrics to An Animal in Your Care you
will feel it more. It is really a sad and beautiful song.
Generally speaking the WP community love it. Naturally they all universally love Apologies, but I actually
think they are mostly glad that they have produced a different sounding record. The best thing
seems to be that most people have a favourite song. Language City or Kissing the Beehive seem to be
absolute picks, but there is good debate on each and every song. The feeling seems to be is that is
more of an artistic statement then Apologies. Actually there is not a lot of debate as to whether it
is better, but more debate on just its own individual merits.
Oh, I think the album cover is great, but I am probably biased.
Better get back to listening to it.
May 3, 2008 at 13:18
apparently the new album is called '....At Mount Zoomer'.
