Last year, free from major label restrictions, Magic Dirt released the mini-album - Beast. It was full to the brim (or nearly the brim) with raw, cock-punching rock. Around the same time they also came out with another mini-album called Roxy's Room which was basically just single-chord noise. Both records highlighted the fact the band seemed to be making a conscious decision to move away from their Triple J-loved Dirty Jeans sound.
The first taste from their upcoming new album, Girl, is a track called Romy and (unfortunately) sees the band return to their (hmm... shittier) pop side.
Word from inside Camp Dirt is that the new album isn't all pop-and-shine and there are a lot of 'Beast-like' tracks bursting to get out, kick, punch and fuck the listener's head proper like.
Girl is scheduled to be released on July 5 via Emergency/Remote Control.
Tracklisting:
In support of the new album 'the Dirt' will be hitting da road on a MASSIVE 40-date RURAL national tour. In conjunction with the tour the band is running a little competition to get a whole lotta un-signed bands to support them at each of the stops.
Bands who are keen to get a slot are invited to send their CD demos to:
Magic Dirt
PO Box 297
Fairfield
Victoria 3078
We have been told that the band will be listening to all of the submissions and announce the winners in the last week of July.

the info so far is just that it will include 40 regional towns across all states... but not NT or ACT

I commend them for opening up the support slots to unsigned bands - but how last century is it to post a demo CD? Surely emailing a link to a bands myspace would be easier for everyone.
