Bloc Party start mysterious end of the world countdown

Currently, if you point your web finding machine (browser) at Bloc Party's official webspace you will be greeted with this...

countdown to something

The countdown is set to end at around 11am (England time) which is about 8pm tonight in 'the real world'.

But the big question on everyone's lips - what happens when it reaches zero?

New album FREE to download under The Radiohead Pay Whatever-You-Like SchemeTM?
New song FREE to download?
Naked picture of the band?
A FREE Radiohead vs Girl Talk vs Trent Reznor mash-up mixtape?
Another countdown that ends tomorrow?
A banner ad for FREE ringtones?

I guess we'll find out in 7 hours, 20 minutes and 11 seconds, 10 seconds, 9 seconds...

turns out it's pretty much nothing.. just the next 'step' in the marketing campaign - a radio appearance / announcement ??

we have lost interest now..

when i checked the site at 8.08pm there was just a link to Zane Rowe's radio show webspace i assumed this was just 'the next step'

turns out the site NOW has info about the new single etc.. which is called 'Mercury'... which you can listen to now.. but it isn't officially released until August 11.. with the new album (maybe) coming before the end of the year

you can check out the new song here.

Yeah, it's not very good. Although I didn't like their second album anyway.

They just keep getting worse, and I'm a Silent Alarm devotee. Shittest song of the year so far...

Silent Alarm was such a good record. What happened?

quack

Silent Alarm happened. Last record was dire, this sounds like it was remixed by a 6 year old.
