Something is not right with the Cold War Kids

Cold War Kids will release their new album, Loyalty To Loyalty, the follow-up to the massively popular 2006 debut, Robbers & Cowards, on September 23 via Co-Op/Shock Records.

Cold War Kids - Loyalty To Loyalty

The new record has been described as 'lushly textured' and (as cringe-worthy as that phrase is) if the first single, Something Is Not Right With Me, is anything to go by the group could have a real winner on their hands...

i really enjoyed it heaps more than i thought i would.. we got to briefly meet the band too.. while we were wandering around out the back one of them asked if we were the wombats.. we should have headbutted him..

I enjoyed the night too. I thought most of the new songs sounded pretty good and Nathan Willett is just a great singer.

I thought the lighting was poor though.

Poor lighting, agreed.

Turns out that geeks *can* dance. The guitarists spazzed out.

Jonny Yes Yes

yeh. lighting wasn'rt great.. but the sound was incredible.. really crisp.. which matched their sound perfectly.. hat tipped to the sound man ..

I heard BRMC.

Did anyone get there early enough to see Delta Spirit?

Posted at 15:20 on Tuesday, August 5, 2008.

Jonny Yes Yes

yes... sounded a bit 'adult contemporary' from where i was (credit=christian) i can't listen to music like that.. i age one month with every minute (credit=me) yeh.. how good are BRMC.. at one stage we were debating on whether or not to just put that whole album on so we could take some time off..

Mexican Dogs should be the next single off the album or I'll hunt the band down and point my fingers at them.

why is no-one asking the important questions? how many times did you play Shook Ones part 2?

yeah I totally agree with most comments... siamese: survival, didn't get shutdown, mistaken for the Wombats, mastered the art of mixing with one cd player, fooling us with moments of silence... delta spirit: I don't get it, they seem too nice or something... time for beers. cwk: I saw them at splendour, but only for 2 songs before ran off to see Band Of Horses. At Splendour they sounded shit, sound was crap, they were all over the place, out of time... What a different story at the Enmore... the sound was awesome (as it usually is there) and they seemed more relaxed and together... I love that they completely lost their shit towards the end and rocked out... I don't really understand what they were trying to achieve with the lighting, it was so dark and crap... I think the guitarist was still a little off at times but the vocals sounded amazing at the enmore, so much better than at Splendour. New songs sound great too.

I like to refer to it as Ryan Adams lighting.

Where did everyone end up tonight? Too many sideshows, not enough tiiiime. She's running out of time! I need a time transplant! Stat!

I felt I needed to add this link to explain myself.

Band of Horses for me last night. Great, great show!

Posted at 11:57 on Wednesday, August 6, 2008.

gemdilem

Band of Horses was one of my Splendour highlights... along with The Grates, Divo, The Music, New Young Pony Club, Vampire Weekend... ohhh and Operator Please doing a cover of Salt n Pepa "Push It" [aren't they too young to know this song?! well thats the kind of abuse I yelled at them during it, although it was a really good cover]

did anyone else go to Splendour?

Jonny, did you have anything to do with The Wombats cancelling their dates? Did you play along and end up on their flight in place of the singer?

Posted at 02:24 on Thursday, August 7, 2008.

Jonny Yes Yes

ha.. we were actually supposed to 'dj' for the wombats show too.. had no idea they had been cancelled i thought we had just been politely told that 'our services would no longer be required'...

Posted at 09:33 on Thursday, August 7, 2008.

gemdilem

Really they cancelled?? I caught them being interviewed on Triple J on tuesday and they said they'd already been to the Enmore and checked out the venue... but I think they also said that their equipment had gone missing on a bus somewhere from Byron?!

Posted at 17:05 on Friday, August 8, 2008.

gemdilem

I just googled and it looks like they only cancelled Adelaide?!

Posted at 17:06 on Friday, August 8, 2008.

kidkym

They played the Enmore (and I hear there was a big brawl outside too).

They cancelled both Melbourne shows.

Not sure whether Adelaide went ahead.

Posted at 17:07 on Friday, August 8, 2008.

vitalorgans

i guess our services wearn't needed jonny!

Posted at 18:06 on Friday, August 8, 2008.

tomosushi

i was hoping a life ban from the enmore would have been achieved on the night. SECOND biggest disappointment of 2008.

PS They should have flown you two down to Melbourne & Adelaide to save the wombats shows...geez
