The Vines are playing shows again

Craig Nicholas
Sexiest man in Australian rock 2002-2056.

In their first year or so of 'prime time fame' (during The Rock Revolution Of 2002) The Vines played around 300 shows. A week.

But ever since Craig Nicholls gave some Triple M photographer an epic sized beat down and then narrowly dodged hard jail time with The Infamous Asperges Defense Of 2004 the group have definitely been keeping a low profile. They haven't completely retired from performing live but have instead restricted their public appearances to festivals, special sponsored events and 'secret' shows.

That is until NOW, with the group announcing they will be venturing out of their homes to stretch their legs, return their overdue DVD's and play some shows in support of their latest record Melodia.

The Vines have canceled all of their upcoming shows - including festival appearances (Homebake, Pyramid Rock and Big Day Out) and their scheduled November tour of Japan. Craig Nicholls' mental condition (he was diagnosed with aspergers syndrome in 2004) has dramatically worsened over the past month to the point where he needs to take some time away from the spotlight to seek medical help. #

More artists have been added to next year's Big Day Out including local acts The Drones, Sparkadia, The Vines, Children Collide, Mercy Arms and (surprise surprise) Little red, as well as some international peeps - Serj Tankian, Dropkick Murphys, Black Kids, Hot Chip, Holy Ghost, Lupe Fiasco and Z-Trip. These new faces (and old faces - Black Kids were soooo 2007) join the existing line-up which features exciting up-and-coming superstars such as Neil Young, The Living End and Sneaky Sound System. #

Mr Twelve Major Chords (aka Angus the Destroyer) has given The Vines' new album, Melodia, a fairly positive write-up. In his review he makes a lot of good points about the band's ability to still churn out great two-minute pop rock numbers and the endless 'comeback' talk that seems to haunt them. We are still trying to find the words to sum up our own feelings towards the record. #
