Bluejuice and New Buffalo win awards

The two preliminary prizes in the Australian Music Prize have were announced today.

The Red Bull Award, which recognises an artist's potential (note: Gotye won it last year), was awarded to Sydney's Bluejuice. They will take home $15,000 to use towards giving their career a bit of a leg-up. We think there will more than likely be only around $24 or so left for 'legging up' once the Bluejuice kids have finished celebrating today's announcement.

Sally Seltmann (aka New Buffalo) has taken out the other prize, the MySpace public vote, and will be given $50,000 worth of promotional support on the social networking site. Whoasters! New Buffalo banner ads everywhere for the next 12 months.

The BIG prize (25 thousand dollars!) will be announced on Thursday at around midday. We are assuming the artists mentioned above cannot also win the major prize so that means we are now down to Architecture in Helsinki, Midnight Juggernaughts, The Mess Hall, Dardanelles, Devastations, Lisa Miller, Perry Keyes and Urthboy as the possible el grande champs.
