Crowded House, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, You Am I, Headless Chickens and Kasey Chambers named as part of Homebake line-up

Homebake

Homebake - Australia's homegrown festival of love, music and reunions - is BACK! This year's event will be taking place on Saturday, December 6 and once again be held at the Royal Botantic Gardens in Sydney.

The line-up will see the re-reunion of Crowded House (carrying on from the welcoming return they received at Coachella a few months back), soon-to-be-massive Melbournites Eddy Current Suppression Ring, a few 'veterans' such as Headless Chickens and You Am I and a whole host of embarrassingly shithouse acts (you know who we mean).

The full line-up:

  • Crowded House
  • Eddy Current Suppression Ring
  • You Am I
  • Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson
  • Sneaky Sound System
  • Cut Copy
  • Gabriella Cilmi
  • Pnau
  • Died Pretty
  • The Potbelleez
  • Bliss N Eso
  • Karnivool
  • Infusion
  • Headless Chickens
  • British India
  • The Getaway Plan
  • Sparkadia
  • Bluejuice
  • Drapht
  • Little Red
  • Snob Scrilla
  • Pegz
  • Dash & Will
  • Bag Raiders

This year's festival has been nicknamed 'Peace In The Park'. There was some Albert Einstein quote and an Amnesty International logo on the festival website so I am assuming the whole thing is going to pushed as some sort of semi-themed 'peace rally' against the big corporate world that is choking and raping the beautiful goddess, Mother Nature. I am sure the phrase 'carbon footprint' will be mentioned a dozen or so times as part of the lead-up as well.

The festival will once again be restricted to over-18s only. Surely this decision is out of respect to the adults who don't want their day ruined by pesky little underage 'kids' and has nothing to do with the fact that the youngsters aren't able to blow a months pay on cans of overpriced beer on the day.

Tickets will set you back $87.50 (+ bf) and go on sale on Monday, August 18 at 9am.

It also should be noted that the organisers have done a pretty smart thing (and something we touched on a few months back) and made tickets available at physical outlets as well as online via Ticketek and the ticketing page on the festival website. Details on where you can get tickets and info on how the organisers plan to stop scalping is available on this page.

I'm not doubting that their intentions aren't good, but the whole 'peace' deal is a joke. Where was this action in 2003? Jesus.

It's like RATM saying that now is the best time to reform. No, it wasn't. Jerks. How about 8 years ago??! Hell, you wouldn't have even needed to break up.

Jerk-fucking-tacular.

Also, no Supergroove? What the fuck is this?

Homebake is a bogan magnet... have been absolutely appalled by the crowds last last couple of years. It's even worse than BDO

Eddy Current Suppression Ring have capped off an impressive year by topping two out of the three lists in Mess and Noises' annual readers poll. The Melbourne outfit finished two votes ahead of The Drones to win Album Of The Year, in addition to taking out the Best Live Act honour ahead of an impressive field which included veteran rockers You Am I and Nick Cave. Melbourne female quintet Beaches convincingly took out the prize for Best New Act, beating out psychedelic Modular-ites Tame Impala and one of our faves Ghoul. #

You Am I are playing a 'secret show' this Sunday at Oxford Factory. Doors open at 3pm and tickets will set you back around $22. Everyone attending the show will need to sign a release form because the performance will be filmed and is going to be used in a US television commercial. Also, you won't be able to drink. Yep, that's right a YOU AM I SHOW WITH NO ALCOHOL! Irony? Ha? Urgh. #
