At precisely one minute past midnight the entire internet briefly crashed as every person on the planet simultaneously refreshed the All Tomorrow's Parties website. Once the internet bounced back (ie. Google pressed the refresh button) the line-ups for the THREE different locations that the 'festival' will be hitting was (finally) unleashed to the masses.
Mt. Buller: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Saints, Spiritualized, Fuck Buttons, Harmonia, The Necks, Laughing Clowns, Robert Forster, James Blood Ulmer, M. Gira, Primitive Calculators, Afrirampo, Silver Apples, Bridezilla, Rowland S. Howard and The Stabs.
Cockatoo Island, Sydney: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Saints, Spiritualized, Fuck Buttons, Harmonia, The Necks, Laughing Clowns, Robert Forster, James Blood Ulmer, M. Gira, Afrirampo, Silver Apples and Bridezilla.
Brisbane: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Spiritualized, Robert Forster, James Blood Ulmer.
The Mt Buller 'main event' will be take place on Friday, January 9 and Saturday, January 10 at Mt. Buller Alpine Resort. First release tickets - a special ticket/accomodation package - are on sale NOW via the ATP webspace. These first release tickets are $199 (+ bf), with the general admission tickets costing the same and going on sale on November 5 at 9am.
The format for the Sydney leg is slightly different with a one day program repeated over two days (Saturday, January 17 and Sunday, January 18) and the event tying in with the Sydney Festival. The full line-up will be announced on November 5 (along side the Sydney Festival program) and tickets will go on sale on November 10 via Ticketek.
For Brisbane ATP will present a series of seperate shows between January 12 - 16 at The Powerhouse, as well as a a larger afternoon/evening show at the Brisbane Riverstage. The full line-up for both the Powerhouse shows and the 'climatic festival' will be announced prior to tickets going on sale on October 13.
It's pretty safe to assume that those performing at the Sydney version will also be doing sideshows as part of the Sydney Festival. Personally, I was expecting a few more surprises thrown in there (begins with Wu and ends with Tang) but overall it's not too bad - especially compared to the underwhelming Big Day Out line-up that was announced yesterday.

oh God it's going to have to be sideshows I just can't bring myself to be stuck on an island with nick cave...

I was so disappointed with this line-up, it was my last hope after the equally meh BDO line up.
It seems with the overload of summer festivals, only a few good acts appear on each line up , resulting in everyone waiting for sideshows.

Jonny Yes Yesyes.. sideshows are THE balls..
which (decided by the Blog Committee) is a good thing

gemdilemyeah lets hope there is sideshows... seems likely considering its coincidence with the syd festival....
sometimes they don't let them have them have sideshows if the festival doesn't sell out though, which i see as a possibility considering the complete crap-ness of line ups and overload of festivals... ohhh and the financial crisis which apparently will make us worst off and not be able to afford festivals (yep economic nerd talk). does anyone know if the acts will have these kind of clauses regarding sideshows?
the festival season (post december) officially sucks... I'm still excited about Homebake and Meredith.... but I really can't get excited about any festival after those two... ohhh except laneway... their line up better not disappoint... speaking of which, TOMO the Laneway website still says end of Sept for announcements... it's OCT 1st...

Jonny Yes Yesthe financial crisis is just a myth ... like climate change.. and threesomes..

SeanThe only bands that need sideshows are TVOTR and SPZ.

Yeah that is true, was hoping Public Enemy but that isnt looking like its going to happen.
I heard Shellac, The Scientists, Les Savy Fav and Grizzly Bear are all possible too.
Please Deerhunter!

SeanI'd be thrilled if any of The Drones, Dirty Three, No Age, Snowman, or Deerhunter played.
But I agree with Jonny, Snowman just relocated to England a couple months ago so I'm not sure they'll be back that quickly.

quackThe Drones are touring like next month...they might have some other kind of commitments over that period, otherwise you'd think they'd be a shoe-in...being on ATP and pretty much owing their music to Cave etc.

The Canberra Times (bastion of fine journalism that it is...) had an interview with The Drones a week or so ago, and they pretty much all but confirmed it. The Drones, that is, rather than the CT.
Still...
Deerhunter would blow my mind.
