There are soooo many different sides to Ice Cube...
There is the Hollywood guy...

..there is the gun-toting gangsta that was in N.W.A...

.. and there is the dude that just loves clowns..

Whoever the real Mr Cube is - it doesn't change the fact he is awesome AND in Sydney next week. To celebrate we threw around the idea of doing something a little bit special on this site...
J: is it too much to call this week 'Ice Cube week'?
M: yes
M: much too much
J: oh ok
J: he is playing three sold out shows at enmore theatre
J: name another person that could do that
M: god
J: yes
M: god could do it
J: oh
J: yeh
M: or simply red
YES, the star of fantastic movies such as Are We There Yet?, Friday After Next and Barbershop 2: Back in Business is playing three shows (count 'em) at Enmore Theatre this week. The plan for the week was to showcase all of the fine music moments of his career and really get people pumped, excited and in love with The Cube.
Then we came to the realisation that he had only really ever put out one decent album - besides his N.W.A work - and that was his 1990 album Amerikka's Most Wanted. Ice Cube had fallen out with his former comrads (Dr. Dre, Eazy-E etc) and left California for the East Coast to record his solo debut with The Bomb Squad (Public Enemy's beatmakers). The album showcased a frustrated, angry and hungry rapper backed by fantastic and incredibly detailed production. The result was as close to hip-hop perfection as we are probably ever going to get treated to from the 'gangsta rap' genre.
I would have bought tickets to one of his shows this week if there was any guarantee (signed by Ice himself) that he was going to rip through a large number of the tracks from Most Wanted.
And for those not acquainted with the album here are two of the standout tracks:
Once Upon A Time In The Projects
