Sydney's Ivy League Records, home to the likes of The Vines, The Mess Hall, Youth Group, Sparkadia, Josh Pyke and The Silents, has signed a local hip-hop artist by the name of Snob Scrilla.
A source close to the American-born hip-hopper has informed us that the deal to represent the artist was signed today after ongoing negotiations. The signing comes as a bit of a shock given the label's current roster of indie rock groups, but it's lovely to see them spreading their wings. Hair metal?
You can give a listen to several tracks by Snob (or the Snobster as we have affectionately nicknamed him) over at his MySpakker. We especially 'dig' the track, Mr Officer, mainly because of the heavy KRS-One references.
The label, which has gone on a bit of a signing spree over the past few months, has also recently inked a publishing deal with Brisbane indie pop monsters, The Boat People. Obviously, they aren't trying to become Australia's own No Limit Records just yet.
