Laneway Festival 2010 line-up announced

Echo and the Bunnymen

First things first. We had pretty high hopes that Wavves was going to be included in this announcement. There was also some talk of Japandroids and Dinosaur Jnr, which just turned out to be horseshit. I suppose there is always 'round two'.

The exciting news (obvs) is the headline act - ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN!! Their inclusion should not only make the crowd a little bit more 'mature', but also ensure those dickheads who are still spaffing abut the awesomeness of the Big Day Out line-up are nowhere to be seen.

Anyway, the first batch of artists for Laneway 2010 are...

  • Echo & The Bunnymen
  • Florence and The Machine
  • Black Lips
  • The XX
  • Daniel Johnston #
  • Sarah Blasko
  • N.AS.A
  • Eddy Current Suppression Ring
  • Hockey
  • Dappled Cities
  • Mumford and Sons #
  • Radio Clit
  • The Very Best
  • Wild Beasts #
  • Whitely
  • The Middle East
  • Kid Sam
  • Dirty Three *

# not appearing at Adelaide
* Melbourne only

There have also been a few location changes for next year's events, including the Sydney leg of the tour moved out of dark confines of the CDB and out to sunny Rozelle.

Friday, January 29: Alexandria St off St Paul’s Terrace, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane
Saturday, January 30: Footscray Community Arts Centre (FCAC), Melbourne
Sunday, January 31: Sydney College of the Arts (SCA), Rozelle, Sydney
Monday, February 1: Britomart Station, Auckland
Friday, February 5: Fowler's Live, North Terrace, Adelaide
Saturday, February 6: Perth Cultural Centre, Northbridge, Perth

Tickets go on sale via GreenTix on Friday, October 30 at 9am.

Nice to see that they realised their limitations in the CBD and weren't afraid to move. It shows they actually do give a shit, unlike a lot of other gig promoters.

Jonny Yes Yes

i think the marriot hotel wasn't too happy with crunked out kids spewing on their nice carpet..

Jonny Yes Yes

oh.. and Daniel Johnston is THAT Daniel Johnston. .. you know.. 'the stay at home' rock legend..

(nobody)

But why is he Melb only? Will there be Sydney shows?

(nobody)

Wait, sorry sorry. Read that wrong, apologies. I meant Dirty Three. Seems like a bit of a big selling point to be not appearing anywhere but Melb.

(nobody)

Ferk yes!

gemdilem

Laneway Melbourne this year was an absolute mess... they had to do something to win those Melbourn-ites back... Not sure if the Dirty Three and a new venue will be enough, I guess time will tell.

Also a new venue for Sydney! I was wondering when the Marriot was going to kick us out! The SCA has beautiful buildings... no laneways but pretty buildings.

Overall I think the line up is pretty good... and refreshing to have a line up that is less commercialised.

(nobody)

man, nice to see so many aussies... hope second announcement has more international acts.

TJ

This is going to be an amazing day, maybe I'll head to Melbourne as well as Sydney ...

Jonny Yes Yes

mad props to the artwork this year too... website etc.. by the lovely/talented W$YK peeps

brownie

Who are you adding to the second lineup Jonny?

brownie

"Laneway Melbourne this year was an absolute mess... they had to do something to win those Melbourn-ites back... Not sure if the Dirty Three and a new venue will be enough, I guess time will tell."

Fair few comped tickets will be flying around to those who wrote in apparently.

josh.o

I guess the donnie darko soundtrack was ok

quack

hmm not bad...was pretty disappointed with the standard last year bar a few acts. this line up is not that exciting to be honest. maybe i expect too much.

frenk

I was hoping Muse would be announced. I bought their first record in 1979 you know. Still, I'm agunna get a bunch of me mates and shit and we'll have fun in the sun without youse coolsie indi-

Wait. Wrong thread huh?

vitalorgans

Aaaaaaaaaron

You're the coolest of the cool, josh.o. I'm pretty sure the Laneway guys would have loved to have some of the bands you think are worthy of playing for you but remember, this isn't a massive festival with loads of money & resources. There is nothing wrong with any of the acts on the first announcement. Get your ticket and see some bands I'm sure you haven't seen before and have fun at one of the best festivals going around.

sci_fi

Wild Beasts!!
their presence is the reason i'll be there.

brownie

"massive festival with loads of money & resources"

It's as big as the Big Day Out or Soundwave these days and backed by one of the major music promoters in this country...

Aaaaaaaaaron

How is it as big as the Big Day Out? Pull your head in son.

(nobody)

"It's as big as the Big Day Out or Soundwave these days and backed by one of the major music promoters in this country..."

Totally...it sells out at 25000 people in each city, at $160 a pop... not a surprise considering 'Limbo, panto' by Wildbeasts is on every suburban kids playlist right next to Paramore ...i hear they have David Bowie up their sleeve for the second announce.

brownie

"How is it as big as the Big Day Out?"

It runs the exact same cities and consistently sells out. While the acts on the bill may be niche compared to the other two bills it's an audience that is big enough to move tickets on mass.

Jonny Yes Yes

25k per city..??
is there really that many people there?
man i was wasted last year

(nobody)

Brownie have you been to the festival? It's like the anti-big day out. It's 10 times smaller.

Jonny you were totally wasted and seeing quadruple at the very least. Or maybe you were just distracted with stalking The Grates

brownie

tomosushi, when I write big I'm not talking in terms of physical space. The fact that they sell out their shows and tour across the country (and now Auckland) suggests to me that they are a bigger festival then something like Days Like This or Field Day.

Jonny, I heard the figure in Melbourne this year was between 10-12k including comped tickets. Wouldn't be shocked if it was similar your way.

(nobody)

Eh cheer up everyone!!
Far as lineups go it's pretty good! And there's 2 announcements to go! So if you still are upset then, come to my house for hugs and perhaps more?
We don't have to tell your parents and friends we met on the internetz!

(nobody)

10K? I have no idea who you are talking to Brownie but that person has the crazies!

bella

hey vital, I wasn't upset but I will come to your house for hugs!

(nobody)

sarah blasko? lol wat

josh.o

Dudes if they can get Echo and the Bunnymen they can get Japandroids

bella

josh.o

Pretty sure in the future Australian festival lineups will just be: The Middle East, The Middle East, The Middle East, The Middle East, The Middle East TECH, The Middle East DJs,The Middle East (acoustic)

Lochy

The Middle Eastern Distributors?

brownie

The Middle East DJs do a set of their own tracks, right?

josh.o

At least Middle East Tech chuck in a few Remixes

Jonny Yes Yes

you can take the boy outta Townsville...

(nobody)

You guys realise that WaVVes is just a joke band set up by Pitchfork right?

bella

oh shit, have the pitchforks punk'd us AGAIN?!?!

(nobody)

haha "the pitchforks". best blog band name ever. apart from "the pitchVVorxxs"

brownie

If I started a band I'd name them "Various Artists"

bucci

or name my album, Album

(nobody)

someone recent did name their album 'Album', I saw it in Yen mag. Cant remember who it was now though. Pretty funny.

(nobody)

It was girls. I just bought it a few days ago and its coooool. I sure am excited for Laneway too.

(nobody)
