What is going to be good at next year's Sydney Festival?

The Sydney Festival program for Two Dubble Oh Nine got announced about a week ago (yep, we are really 'current') and there weren't too many surprises (music ones anyway) included.

The main focus/event/centrepiece for the music program is the previously announced, Sir Nick Cave curated ATP Festival. Tickets are ON SALE NOW for this so act quickly. Fingers crossed that Fuck Buttons sideshows get announced soonish.

The famous 'first night' also looks pretty good, with FREE performances from Santogold, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and billions others happening all around the streets of the city. It is a notoriously overcrowded party though so if you actually want to 'properly' see any of the artists performing you are probably better off to going to a show that isn't .. err.. so FREE.

From all reports Bon Iver fans are pretty stoked that he will be coming out for the festival. Sorry, but I just don't 'get it'.

Other (semi) interesting things on offer include: The Bug, Four Tet, Holy Ghost, Throwing Muses, Z-Trip and Metronomy. Overall, there seems to be a fairly avante-garde electronica focus this time around.

Run Lola Run

One of the not as heavily promoted highlights of the festival is the iiNet Films Afloat series. These events will feature well-known films presented with the score played by a live band, are 100% FREE and will be happening out in the FRESH open air down at Darling Harbour. The first two nights look especially awesome with UK electronic act The Bays playing the music for Tom Twyker's iconic film Run Lola Run. You can download some of The Bays' live recordings from here.

There is also a fella by the name of Reggie Watts performing at the festival. He has a very unique style, making all of his improv creations with just a microphone and a loop machine...

You can catch him playing at the Bosco Theater January 20-25 and 27-31. More info and tickets here.

Joe Hardy has also given the festival offerings a bit of an analysis. Interesting for the 'insider info' on acts we aren't too familiar with.

Tickets for all festvial shows are on sale NOW via the official site.

We will be tracking all Sydney Festival related announcements (or at least the ones we care about) on this page.

Big OK, photograph away. I used to have a generic NBA russian doll as well. I think it had Shaq, Karl Malone, etc. I don't know where it is now...

That's OK Jonny. In fact, any forumers are more then welcome to come
to the housewarming. The more the merrier. Just send me an email to my blog
and I will forward the invite.

The music played will be good I do believe. Potential playlist includes-
Bob Dylan
No Age
Blink 182
Sunset Rubdown
Deerhunter
You Am I
Radiohead
TVOTR
Blitzen Trapper
Menomena
Broken Social Scene
Wolf Parade
etc, etc.

No KOL or Coldplay. Maybe Simon and Garfunkel.
