Over at MTV you can stream all of the Cold War Kids' new album Loyalty to Loyalty. The album officially hits stores on September 23, although locally you should be able to hunt down a copy from tomorrow.

ohhh I hope its not true... I've been looking forward to this album based on hearing some of their new stuff at the enmore...

It's not true. I found this on the web (in spite of presumably the band's label leaving dead links to stumble over like stumps in a logging town) and it's totally fckn awesome. A massive leap from R&Cs for mine. The production is raw and dirty and heaps more "in your face" than R&Cs. There are certainly moments of low tempo piano based numbers, but there are also some of the most ferocious songs dudes have strung together ('Mexican Dogs', which made me a new arse and then kicked it at the Enmore show). Between this and the new Walkmen album my ears be sorted for the next few.

The (initial) line-up for the 2009 Playground Weekender has been announced and includes Primal Scream, The Streets, Cold War Kids, Crystal Castles, Whomadewho, The Paper Scissors, Pomomofo, WOW and many many more. The festival will take place from February 6 to 8 and once again be held at Wiseman's Ferry (about an hour or so north of Sydney). Thanks to kidkym via the forum for the heads up. #
