For some time now Sydney's
megastick fanfare have been torn between their pop catchiness and their jam session AnCo-ish wackiness. Thankfully, if this new song is an accurate guide, they have decided to plant the stick (pun intended) smack bang in the middle.
On October 1st iconic community radio station, Sydney's
2ser, turns 30 years old. To celebrate the commencement of their 'dirty thirties' the station will be going on a month of partying/binge-ing with a whole bunch of their friends (who just so happen to be in kickass local and international bands) coming along for the ride. Forget about settling down, mortgaging 'up' and watching the biological clock explode - it's time to smash up the party zone and let the inner-cougar/GILF out.
This isn't really what you would call a 'normal' remix, but rather a completely new song, built from the source composition's dismembered elements. The
Seekae lads have completely sliced, diced and 'had their way' with every single inch of
the original megastick version, converting it from a lovely lo-fi pop jam into a strange 8-bit orgy of glitch-driven pleasure. It's Game Boy (original) bonus level keypad slamming, mixed with some great violent synths and topped off with some randomly sprinkled vocal snippets.
There is a 98% chance that at some point tonight you will be staggering around Oxford St like a munted c-bomb.
The Festival Ladies take on the cool indie kids, dodgem cars and dagwood dogs at the annual Queens Birthday musical outing.
Friday night (umm... about 2 weeks ago now) was
hyped up (by us) as pretty much the greatest night of Sydney music EVER.
Spunk Single's Club launch, Naked On The Vague fundraiser and SPOD playing at World Bar. Whoa.
A 'totally fresh' band outta Sydney who create a unique brand of up-beat harmonic love rock. And don't like capital letters.
And by 'tour the shit outta' we mean 'play five shows in four states'.

This song, the
second lil' taste from the group's debut mini-album
Bright Victory, is, unfortunately, not an ode to the greatness of
JD Salinger, but it's fairly fucking brilliant nonetheless.
While we are still waiting for confirmation to the
rumour that The Strokes' will be here for Splendour in July, we now at least know we'll be getting one (beautiful) Stroker visiting our shores this year.

- spod is on at 12.30 i do believe, so less running, more strolling to be there in time
- spunk launch is well on track to sell out if it hasn't already. pre-buy tix or get there early.
