I have never been a huge fan of the bald techno vegan the world knows as Moby. Sure, his performance with Fucked Up where he helped smash out a 'gutsy' version of Blitzkrieg Bop was fairly awesome BUT his 'the perfect backdrop for your marketing plan' techno style has never really suckered me in.

The flip side of his mainstream success over the past decade means that he is now (probably) a fairly rich little vegan. The royalties he has garnered from every song from Play being used in every single commercial for the past 25 years means that he can now 'afford' to get a little bit 'artistic' with his 'craft'.

Shot In The Back Of The Head sounds exactly like that. It's a fantastically gritty lo-fi instrumental number. It builds up in a lovely natural way, tripping over itself along the way a few times along the way, with the music blending glitchy electro and movie-style theatrics. I know I will probably cop a bit of hatin' for saying this BUT - I fucking love this song.

The track is the first single from his upcoming new album Wait For Me, which is due out on June 30. Moby has posted a lot more info about the new album and the thoughts behind it's creation over at his website.

The video, directed by David Lynch, is pretty damn killer too.
