Songs
Oh No
The fact that I haven't yet mentioned my overwhelming lust for Songs' self-titled record, undeniably one of my favourite local releases of the year, is nothing short of a national disgrace.
Oh No is one of the album's standout tracks, with the band taking a rusty knife to their signature 'crisper than a morning walk through the glaciers' punk sound, creating a song that politely explodes all over your face with a beautiful self-restrained angst. There is plenty of attitude here, but instead of taking the easy option and simply spitting on your face the song swaggers through with a fantastically complex mix of self-confidence, boredom and disgust.
Songs is out now through Pop Frenzy, with our proper written thoughts on the record coming sometime very soon. Spoiler alert: we think it's funking awesome.
You can catch frontman Jeff Burch playing a solo set tonight at Serial Space in Chippendale, alongside Ivan Lisyak, Kusum/Peter Blamey and Jon Hunter. The band's next scheduled performance is on January 9, when they'll be supporting Kelly Stoltz at the recently refurbished Sandringham Hotel in Newtown.
