Faker
Be The Twilight

Catchy hooks. Try and find a review of anything to do with Sydney's Faker that doesn't mention those two words. Not that crafting fantastically polished pop rock tracks isn't a skill, it just too often instantly hijacks the personality out of the songs and dehumanizes the music. At times Be The Twilight sounds forced, at times it feels like a guilt-free throwback to You Am I at their finest. Pop rock music was never supposed to be this confusing.

Once you arrive at about the halfway point of Be The Twilight all of the songs have started to sound the same. None are particularly bad and none of them stand out as future favourites. This is pretty much the only problem with this album - it takes time. Time to listen to repeatedly and start to distinguish between the tracks. To a lesser extent it was the same for Addicted Romantic, although I somehow got over the 'time hurdle' and started to really enjoy that album. Maybe I had more time two years ago to let the songs become familiar.
