Damn Arms
Home Wrecker (EP)

By design, EP's are supposed to leave you wanting more. They are a cock tease to a horny teenager. EP's are perfect for bands like Damn Arms. Short, explosive ideas thrown together and slapped into four songs seems like it would be right up the alley of the Sydney electro-rockers, and, for the first half of this release, it is.

The title track kicks things off, complete with a memorable guitar riff and a catchy style about it, but it's the second song, Now Thats A Reaction that completely steals the show. It's a wild two and half minutes that sounds something like Death From Above 1979 with more synth and eleven other conflicting ideas trying to break through.

Unfortunately this is where the whole thing comes tumbling down, as the momentum stops dead with some sort of slow, minimal remix that leaves the listener wondering why the band didn't just give us another chaotic number. The closing track is a more suitable remix, this time by indie faves Midnight Juggernauts, but it comes more as a relief than anything. The electro sound suits Damn Arms well, but I can't help but wonder how much better the whole EP would have been if they left the remixes alone and shown us more of what they can do themselves.
