The momentum gathered up on the opening track, Woody Woodpecker, of electro-wacko-king Dan Deacon's latest offering, is perfect. It builds to a climatic finale, leading into the second track, and clear standout on the album, The Crystal Cat, which has an awesome catchy yet chaotic style. It's at this point the whole flow of the album stops dead. The listener is hit with a couple of songs that bring a jamming holt to the awesomeness of this album. The third track, Wham City isn't as boring as a track that comes in at just under twelve minutes could be, but there is about 5 minutes that could have been cut out of it.
There are many different sides to this album. The turbulent, erratic style works brilliantly on many tracks, however, the overall continuance of the album is crushed by the slower, fairly un-eventful numbers. It's clear these were added to break up the album from any form of monotony, however, they are poorly executed and, sadly come across as lazy and dull.
