First things first - I grew up in the 90's. Electronic music, as well as hitting it's commercial success peak, was incredibly dull and uncreative. Because of this I am only just starting to get back into the genre.
French duo Justice are surely one of the acts that is going to ease me back into it. At times they cook up fantastic pop numbers like the infectious radio friendly D.A.N.C.E. while for the most part they take what would have been a dull - yet poptastic - number and completely turn it on it's head. This is where I find the true brilliance in this record. To the listener it seems as though the album was created once and then completely re-done with record skips, extra tension-building keys and industrial sound effects layered all over the top. Tracks like Valentine, Phantom Part II and New Jack execute this mix between catchy song and creative chaos brilliantly.
There are kids who will 'lose their shit' when songs from this record come on at their local discotheque. But the true beauty of the album is that you don't need to be in a party-like situation or dropping drugs like Skittles to enjoy it. For someone who grew up when the whole genre of electronic music was fueled by a connection to dancefloors and party drugs this is welcomed with open arms.
