Oxygen Accident, the clear highlight track of the Sydney-siders' debut full length combines all of the things I love about this band. The strained vocals, the chaotic battle of guitars vs drums and the continual tempo changes all collide to create the best three and half minutes The Paper Scissors have produced to date. The remainder of the album - which contains the two previously released (and awesome) tracks We Don't Walk and Yamonote Line alongside nine other new ones - is an up and down ride of conflicting ideas and wayward direction.

At their best they are the best band in this town. The moments of well guided chaos are unfuckwitable. Their shit songs are the equivalent of what would happen if the rug salesman on Enmore Rd picked up a guitar. The fact they included a 13-second 'skit' entitled Yamalude (in an attempt to milk the success of Yamanote Line just a little bit more) on an album with only 11 tracks earns them a firm kick in the groin and a $2.50 refund demand.

For every good moment on this album there is an equally cringe-worthy one. Fans of the Scissors won't burn this in the street. They also won't give up hope that next time around the band tighten the scope a little bit and work towards some sort of album goal.

The second par of your review deserves a Jim Schembri Award for vitriol.

However, the review don't answer my burning question (or my burning love for that matter), namely is it worth going to the Paper Scissors album launch on Friday?

I think I'm going tonight as well; see what I missed on Monday. Be good to meet some of you lot there. I'll be the incorrigible one in the camera shirt, probably.

Or not. I stayed at home and watched Children of Men, Chinatown and Breaker Morant. Research, see.

Just listened to Oxygen Accident. If that is the highlight of the record then I dunno. I don't even know what to say. It's pretty bland.
