Grinderman
Grinderman

On Nick Cave's latest project he does what I think he does best - (musically) kicks the listener in the balls (hard) with blues-inspired rock music. He also occasionally rips at your heart strings (violently) before pulling out your hair and using it to restring his guitar, and at other times he steals your girlfriend right from under your nose with some well rehearsed sleazy lines and then plummets her deeper than she ever could have ever imagine being plummeted, stamping a big 'CAVE' branding on her behind before leaving her back at your place.

Nine Inch Nails
The Slip

Trent Reznor's a pretty good guy to be a fan of. Of late, Nine Inch Nails enthusiasts have been treated to copious amounts of free or cheap music, special artwork, limited edition box sets, USB drives full of music left in public bathrooms, cryptic guessing game marketing campaigns and a ton of shows.

The War On Drugs
Wagonwheel Blues

Back when Bob Dylan looked like Cate Blanchett (and vice versa) he started creating these drawn-out, wailing, politically charged poetic ballads. If Sir Bob was alive today (too soon?) then he would surely praise the opening track of The War On Drugs' debut record Arms Like Boulders as it sounds a lot like the best song he just didn't have the talent to make.

Unkle Ho
Circus Maximus

I like the ideas that the good Unkle tries out on this record. The mix of notable influences of Asian, European and Australian cultures, combined with his own hip-hop production skills are nicely balanced and well executed.
