We would have reviewed this album three or so months ago when it first landed in our world but it sent us on such a wild intergalactic psychedelic space voyage that we have only just found ourselves arriving back to the safety of our homes.
Ok. Lame intros disguised as excuses aside. This is a fantastic album.
Daniel V. Snaith is Caribou - a one man drum machine, time-warping, electronic musician. His latest offering is a collection of almost flawless songs, each one filling it's rightful spot on the album.
The sound is obviously heavily influenced by the 'flower power' era of the 60's and 70's. That said, it feels more like what the style of music would have been like had it been birthed in a more digital age rather than an exploitation.
Snaith fantastically blurs the line between organic instruments and computerised loops, creating a world where every sound doesn't necessarily need to have a clear origin and words float over the top as an extra source of rhythm and melody. The beautiful mix of layered psychedelic melodies and catchy drum loops compliments and intertwines perfectly.
Far and away 2007's most satisfying 42 minute acid trip.
