Like most hip-hop performer's in the modern era, Jay-Z has become a victim of his own cliches and predictable songs. He even sounds bored, as his wordsmith skills are overshadowed by the stock standard neck-snapping beats from top name industry producers and continual reach for pop success.
The album, most probably caused by the varying beat-makers used throughout the release, feels like a collection of singles, without any clear flow or direction. For people you are generally impressed by Jay-Z's definate ability to flow conversational speaking together as songs, check out Reasonable Doubt and/or The Blueprint as they showcase the rapper as a hungry, confident and talented individual.
