Menomena
Friend and Foe

The emergence of bands that are dedicated to their own vision, without any thought of catering to any sort of preconceptions seems to be happening less and less frequently. So when you do discover something that shatters personal barriers of what music can be, it is safe to say that it's a rewarding experience.

Menomena is one such discovery that I have made lately that my personal musical tastes automatically began salivating over when I first heard them. From the moment a certain co-android-author led me to what is quite possibly the most awesome band website ever I was hooked. And once the music started playing I knew i had found something special.

The band has been around for a while, since the late 90's, and their sound has matured to become some of the most intelligently crafted, and left of centre tunes you will probably ever hear. The writing process for the album is described as completely democratic, and it shows with all of the elements in each song working off of each other and adding up to more than the sum of their parts because of their perfect synergy.

By doing what they do best, and damning any expectations that others may put on them, Menomena have clearly been able to reach a level of creativity that is rarely surpassed in an age where sales is the main benchmark of success.
