Review the new Bad Seeds album? What the fuck do I know about Nick Cave? These are guys that have spent more time in recording studios and touring the globe than I have spent breathing. How in the name of Castle Greyskull am I supposed to take into account the vast ocean of material that Nick and his cronies have produced? Easy, ignore it. Ignorance is bliss.

So there is this new band out, and they are called Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. I guess the dude is meant to be kinda dark or something, as his last name is Cave. But he's also meant to be kinda funny, because his name is Nick? That doesn't make sense. And the band? Well I guess they must know a thing or too about the dangers of stale sperm. What other explanation could their be?

So they just put out this really good album called Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!!. And its not only awesome because it has no less than SIX (6) exclamation marks in the title. Its also awesome because the songs on it are really really really good. The first track, Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!, is also the title track - although with a few extra comments inserted and exclamations removed to confuse those that aren't paying attention - and it is an incredibly amusing little narrative about some guy and his exciting/tragic life.

And it not the only good song either. There's other songs on the album too, and most of them are excellent. There's one called Moonland that has a really groovy bass line. And a guitar solo. And there's one called Lie Down Here (And Be My Girl) thats got some great backing vocals, and also some more guitars and probably other instruments. Finally, there's also a song title Midnight Man, and it brings back some of that funky bass, those lyrical type constructions, and some sort of organ sounding thing.

All in all its pretty much an album full of songs that tinker with various combinations of instruments and singing. And all in all, its pretty much a whole bunch of fun. I hope they're not a one hit wonder.

So close to my experiences it's not even funny.

Nick Cave albums are cheap at JB at the moment so I bought Murder Ballads to start my education. Then downloaded the new one. Now I need to buy it too. Fantastic record indeed.

Sean

But why are there two different scores for the album? (the main review page says 8.1)

Go with 8.1.

thanks sean. i was worried it was maybe too jokey, but i also knew that nothing i could say would either deter or encourage anyone from getting the album that wasnt going to anyway, so i decided to have fun with it instead.
