Remember when Memphis Bleek kicked that awesome freestyle at the start of a Jay-Z album and it was like the passing of the torch, from the legend to the new kid on the block?

No? Ok.

Anyway, this upcoming tour, which sees over-loved Triple J rockers, Faker, team up with up-n-comers, Sparkadia, is kinda like the Australian indie pop-rock equivalent of this. "Memphis who?" I hear you say. Yeah, exactly.

Thursday, September 4: Prince Of Wales, Bunbury
Friday, September 5: Metro City, Perth
Saturday, September 6: Settlers Tavern, Margaret River
Friday, September 12: Forum Theatre, Melbourne
Saturday, September 13: Wrestpoint Showroom, Hobart
Sunday, September 14: HQ, Adelaide
Friday, September 19: Coolangatta Hotel, Gold Coast
Saturday, September 20: Enmore Theatre, Sydney

The Enmore Theatre show is also an all ages event. So prepare for the back alleys of Enmore and Newtown to be full of 16 year-olds getting totally fucked up on Passion Pop or highly-taxed alco-pops.

<![CDATA[New record store opening in Newtown this weekend]]> Independent record store, Repressed Records, formerly located in a distant land called Penrith, is relocating to sunny ol' Newtown, with the grand opening happening this Saturday.

You will be able to find the store at 356 King St, which we are told is left from when you come out of the station, down towards the performing arts high school.

This is what Nick, an employee, had to say about the general thinking behind the store:

I hope Repressed Records can expose and get more people interested in the independent/DIY bands Australia has to offer. As if more people wouldn't be interested in bands like Dead Farmers, Straight Arrows, Grey Daturas, Lindsey Low Hands, NOTV, Moonmilk, Whitehorse, Garbage and the Flowers, Look!Pond, Always, Agents of Abhorrence, Fabulous Diamonds etc if they knew they existed.

Well, it's good to know we aren't alone in that belief.

Record buying in Newtown has never been better at the moment with Paint It Black, that awesome vinyl/rarities store on the south part of King St that I always forget the name of, Egg Records and the 'mainstream' outlets (Fish, HUM etc) covering a nice wide spectrum of tastes and styles.

Much like Paint It Black, the store will also sell stuff on consignment, giving local bands a great way to get their music out to the public. They offer a whole range of deals for bands, distros and labels, more info of which can be found in this Mess and Noise thread.

<![CDATA[WOW get kicked off stage at Levity Nights]]> Levity Nights, which we are told is some hip new 'night' that we have been deemed too ugly and/or too old to attend, recently played host to one of our current faves, electro whizz kids - WOW.

However, the fun was short lived with the duo getting booted off stage by the venue's owner (a hard-faced old lady called 'Doris') three songs into their set.

Very disappointing to see the band decide against sparking a riot and destroying the place. Do you think Limp Bizkit rose became the greatest band of all time by taking shit from old ladies and politely just packing up when told?

Act quickly though, as the sale is scheduled to end on July 8.

<![CDATA[Video: SPOD: Cats!]]> SPOD actually showed off this Powerpoint powered 'video clip' at his Hopetoun launch show a few months back. Everyone had to crowd around his laptop to watch it though, as the projector wasn't working.

This is undoubtedly the best video you will see this year and/or EVER.

<![CDATA[New Music: The Get Busy Crew]]> The Get Busy Crew

The Get Busy Crew 'rep' Sydney. They make party jamz. The lead female MC is 11 years old. They rock the bells like LL, and the stuff they kick is approximately 5,000 times more fresh than you and your homies' weak ass rhymez.

Bustin' Lines

You can catch the whole crew at the Pedestrian TV issue 14 launch show at the Berlin Lounge on the Gold Coast this Friday (July 4). The night is also co-presented by the lovely folks over at the Have Fun Club, who are THE go-to kidzz for all things electro. Definitely a show worth checking out if you find yourself in the sunny part of the country this weekend.

<![CDATA[Radiohead get remixed by old computer hardware]]> Hey, you remember that time you remixed Radiohead's track Nude as part of some online contest thingo? Well it was kinda cool, in fact I even thought it was (almost) straight-up 'banging'.

That was until I saw James Houston's effort.

And for those playing along at home, the 'instruments' used were - a Sinclair ZX Spectrum (guitars), Epson LX-81 Dot Matrix Printer (drums), HP Scanjet 3c (bass guitar) and a hard drive array (speakers, vocals & FX).

<![CDATA[Menomena show off some awesome b-sides and rarities via Muxtape]]> Unless you have been living under a large rock-shaped plastic thing for the past few weeks, you know all about Muxtape. It's arguably the greatest online mixtape making machine EVER. It's also nice, clean, friendly and been embraced by many musical peeps as a nice way to give people access to fresh and/or awesome stuff.

Case in point - Menomena's Muxtape, which consists of some fantastic rare songs, b-sides and other goodies by the Portland outfit.

Some other notable Muxes that we have stumbled across over the past little bit...

RZA's Staten Island Ferry Ride mix, which seamlessly goes from Paul Simon to Wu-Tang Clan to Elton John.

Albert Hammond Jr's mix is very enjoyably nostalgic.

Actually, both The RZA's and Albert's lists are part of a project by New York Magazine to get 'cool NY folks' to create dope-ass summer mixtapes.

Mike Shinoda, who .. er.. plays in some band called Linkin Park, has great hip-hop taste. This hip-hop mix is also verrrry freakin' awesome.

Unfortunately, Muxtape can't be searched, so finding mixes with songs you like is kinda like digging in da crates at your local, badly cataloged vinyl shop. Except less smelly, dusty and without that creepy, bearded guy behind the counter giving you funny looks. So, yeah, obviously not as good.
